Does anyone have any recommendations for chapter books to read to a 5 year old boy.

Would like to start reading some to him but not sure of any good ones for his age.

If you're reading to him how about trying the Faraway Tree?

Shifty McGifty & Slippery Sam do longer chapter books which are funny.
Wigglesbottom Primary were popular with mine

The jolley Rogers have a series of chapter books including pictures which are good. There's a normal picture book for the first one, then a series of chapter books after that. Or some of the shorter roald dalhs, the twits, esio trot etc. Or similarly, dick king Smith, the hodgeheg etc. And as a pp suggested, the faraway tree series went down well with my 5 year old.

I read the how to train your dragon series with my 5 (nearly 6) year old. He really liked it, though it dose have some 'scary' bits, so it he's sensitive might need to be older. We've also read a lot of dinosaur cove, which are shorter chapter books, if your just moving on to them.

The faraway tree, the wishing chair. My DS loved those (still does, age 6).
Dick king smith too.

Captain Pugwash were just right for my two at this age. Possibly out of print but easy to get second hand

Jolly rogers, winnie the witch, tales of grimwood, the ickabog. All loved by my dd at that age.

I can't stand it but Hirrud Henry was very popular with my kids at that age.

How about the Famous Five? They have newer shorter stories available.

Some good ideas to look into. Thanks
