have you tried putting him on the toilet before you go to bed.Normally if you pick him up put him on loo and just say do a wee quietly he wont wake up.this is also very young for night time maybe he is not ready.

Washable nappies?

seeker · 29/01/2008 21:50

He's very young to be dry at night - I wouldn't even try yet. And don't cut down on dinksw - it makes the urine more concentrated whcih irritates the bladder so that they pee more!

Give it a few months or a year and try again.

Ds used to have a problem with this (but we're still nowhere near potty training and he's almost as old as yours). I found that when I put a nappy on he'd be soaked through and when DH did it, he was fine. We went up a size from what he wears in the day and put it on so that all of the extra absorbant bit (pampers) is at the front IYSWIM, so it's lower at the back than I would normally do for daytime and theres a lot of bulk. Then when we do up the poppers on his vest, we make sure that all the bulk is at the fron before they're poppered. He hasn't once woken up wet since we started doing this, despite having some VERY full of wee nappies. HTH

ditto washables.
we've never had a leak at night from a washable

I think 2.8 is still very young to be dry at night. My DS1 is coming up to 4 and still in night nappies. I've always used terries, boosted at night, with plenty of padding between the legs and at the front where it's needed most. I put plastic pants over the top, and have never had any leaks

bigdonna · 30/01/2008 17:49

it is very young but my kids were both dry at night at 2.2 yrs,and i have friends kids who at 6yrs wear nappies.

Tommy · 30/01/2008 17:51

I wouldn't even try at this age or certainly wouldn't worry about it if he's not dry

AwayWithTheFaries · 30/01/2008 18:31

im not trying to get him dry at night hes soaked coz the nappies leak!

we used to do a lot of travelling at nighttime and knowing that nappies do leak when babies are lay flat all night i did worry about our ds being sat in a puddle asleep for ages .....what we used (and i know it doesnt seem very comfortable) was a disposable with a terry nappy and waterproof pants over the top-it did work well.

donnie · 30/01/2008 18:47

I agree he is very young to be dry at night. My dd1 didn't come out of night time nappies until she was 5 !!! but when she did she was ready. DD2 is day time trained ( she is 2.9) but still wears a nappy at night. I honeslty don't think you should be worrying about this .

donnie · 30/01/2008 18:48

oh sorry just realised he is in nappies at night!!

jeanybeeny · 31/01/2008 10:36

If he's soaked because the nappies leak, then I reckon you need to try a different nappy. You can't beat terry squares, well boosted at night imo. I like the "kite" fold, with another terry nappy pad folded on top, or you could try the "bat" fold, which is a bit neater. Either one gives plenty of padding where it's needed most, but the important thing to avoid leaks is to make sure all the nappy is contained inside the plastic pants. Have the right size pants and just run your finger around the waist and leg openings to make sure none of the nappy is sticking out.
