Hello, title says it all really. 5 month old DS is really well in himself but has 1 spot on his abdomen. We went to the weight clinic yesterday so now I'm worried he picked something up there. What do you all think?

Chickenpox has a 10-21 day incubation period so wouldn't have been showing within 1 day.

Could just be a spot tbh. If it's chickenpox then more will appear

He wouldn't have picked it up yesterday if its chicken pox, it takes a few days of incubation before the spots come out usually. If its chicken pox he will probably get a lot more spots over the next day or two.

At that age my daughter used to get the odd spot here and there that usually went away after 24 hours. Is he on formula or breast milk? If breast squeeze some on it as it heals spots. If it is chicken pox it will develop quite quickly and i would say you'll know by the end of today. If it blisters and more appear then likely is, but it doesn't look particularly like chicken pox tbh. Has he been in contact with anyone? It would be too quick to come from the clinic

Hard to say just yet. Chicken pox and HFM is doing it's rounds at the moment. My DD (23 months) currently has HFM from nursery. We also got an email the same day that chicken pox is also in her classroom so I was unsure which one it was but it's definitely HFM now. Keep an eye on his temperature and if he's itching. I got some lotion in from Asda just incase it was chicken pox. Xx

Chicken pox develops quite quickly, you don’t tend to have one spot and nothing else, children usually have a couple clustered on the torso and then quickly more appear.
High temp is also usually the first symptom, keep eye out and if you are worried stay indoors today.

RedRiverShore2 · 04/11/2022 08:04

DS had one spot that looked like that and it turned out to be ringworm, so just needed some cream from GP, If it is chickenpox you will soon know as many more will appear quite quickly

Skinnermarink · 04/11/2022 08:07

Hand foot and mouth is everywhere at the moment, but I wouldn’t freak out just yet over one spot. Why are you worried about picking something up at the weight clinic? She presumably goes to lots of other places too?

  • he sorry

Chicken pox have a watery blister on the top of them at the start. The blister gets bigger and the watery stuff goes cloudy before they start going.

Thanks all, was worried over nothing as the spot has gone and no more appeared. I thought it might be the weight clinic as its in a gp surgery, which seems to me to be a pretty good place to catch things in!

Unlikely I’d say

one of my sons had very few spots (the other was covered) but i don’t think you can conclude anything with one spot

and it would be 10-14 days after exposure anyway.
