When can I stop waking for feeds

DS is 2 weeks old and has been gaining weight well with lots of wet and dirty nappies.
He was still bang on birth weight at 5 day weigh in and has gone from 9th to 25th percentile now.
I know I’m very lucky to say this but I’ve been having to wake DS for feeds both during the day and night (not all the time though) and if it was up to him he’d sleep for hours! (He’s not jaundice, he was in the first couple of days but midwife checked him over yesterday and he’s fine)
I’m still setting my alarm to feed him particularly in the night. I’ve stretched this to every 3/4 hours now but tonight I forgot to set my alarm and he’s slept for 6! He’d still be asleep if I hadn’t shot out of bed to check he was still breathing!

I feel like 2 weeks is too young to be sleeping through the night, or should I just let him do it?

Don't wake him! Enjoy it!!!

Coming from someone with two terrible sleepers.

He's gaining weight so well. Sleep!!!

If he’s gained back birth weight and generally doing well with good nappy output then I’d leave him at night. Mine is 3.5 weeks (my second) and I wake every 2-3 hours in the day but leave her T night

Midwives used to say, 12 weeks and 12 pounds to let them sleep through. I personally wouldn’t let them go for more than 5 hours overnight before that age, and that’s assuming that feeds are more frequent during the day and nappies are wet through.

If he’s only 2 weeks though, you might be just about to hit the 2-3 week growth spurt, in which case the issue will solve itself as he will wake himself up! Good luck :)

@CheeseAlways does she sleep through the entire night? He feeds every 2-3 hours in the day too I guess maybe he’s getting his calorie intake mainly in the day

No, not yet. She’s done 5-6 hour stints though

The entire human race survived for thousands of years without a arm clocks. Babies survive overnight and wake for feeds.

I didn't have a sleeper but if I had, I'd have let her sleep.

I'm here now feeding 3wo after she's gone 6 hours between feeds. I stopped setting alarm around a week ago but I'm a v light sleeper so tend to wake at her first chomping sounds. She clusters loads for 3 ish hours before bed.

Another one here saying if he's regained his birth weight and he's putting weight on don't wake him up.

DS is 10 today & I remember a friend telling me she had to wake hers as not good feeders and weren't gaining weight quickly enough but my midwife was clear when I asked her that I should just let him sleep.

I was signed off by the community midwife after less than 2 wks at home so DS was very young. He's always been a good sleeper. Congratulations op xx
