Hi, my 5 year old is dairy free currently so I give him organic oat milk. Does it have ANY calcium in it? Eek - panicking......I saw somewhere they don't add calcium to organic oat milk.

Brilliant thanks - loads of really helpful information. Yes he has a dairy intolerance and we are with a dietician and a paediatric gastroenterologist but still no one told me! Yes 450 looks correct....I got 1000 from a random website. He loves sardines so bring on the bones!! We are trying to do the milk ladder but not easy. Thanks everyone....

Apro growing up milk (oat variety) had most calcium when I last checked but none have as much calcium as full fat cows milk. Fortunately we got through the milk ladder and managed to make the switch at 15 months

I’ve always been told they need to be dairy free for at least 6 months before you start the milk ladder.

There is a really good CMPA facebook group.

I think we were only 3 months totally dairy free before we started it but I could be wrong. We just went really slowly and carefully, when we thought there was a reaction we just went back a step and stayed where we were for a while. I think the key is consistently giving them the dairy at the level where they can tolerate it every day so they get used to digesting it, then moving up again. For my DD her main symptom was reflux and there were times when we suspected she may be suffering a bit with it after trying a new level in the ladder, but again we made a call, if she wasn't actually sick and she didn't seem to be in too much discomfort we let her gradually get used to the digesting it and generally after a couple days the slight indigestion symptom she had would go. Obviously depends on how severe the reaction to dairy is in the first place, she never had rash/wheezing or anything from dairy.
