Travel system with swivel car seat

Hi,

I'm expecting my first child in February and thought I had my pram chosen but DH has been told by someone at his work that you're best to have a swivel car seat (and now this is in his head he won't consider anything else). Does anyone know of any travel systems that either come with a swivel car seat or which are compatible with one you can buy separately?
I feel like I've looked at hundreds and can't find one for less than £2.5k!

Swivel seats are great. We are still using ours with DD who is nearly 5.

Putting the car seat on the buggy frame is massively overrated. I would buy a swivel car seat and a separate buggy and not worry about them being compatible.

Swivel car seat is a must!

Cybex Cloud Z works with most travel systems. In our NCT group, 4 of us have the Cybex Cloud Z with Bugaboo, icandy, and vista travel systems

And I disagree about car seat on pram - we did it SO OFTEN. It would have been awful not to be able to swap between car and pram so easily. Travel system is a must in my experience

Have you looked at the Maxi Cosi pushchairs? They do a bundle with infant seat, toddler seat and swivel 360 base and most of their travel systems will take any maxi cosi car seat.

There will be others that do maxi cosi adaptors, Joie are good and generally well priced for what you get.

A swivel car seat isn't able to be put on a travel system, it's a fixed seat that you can rotate to the side to put them in and then turn rear facing/forward facing.

Or you can have a capsule baby car seat which is removable from the car and you can attach to your travel system.

Which one works best for you is entirely dependent on how you're likely to use it. Do you have parking at your house? Do you live in a top floor flat? Will you be using the carrycot part of the travel system most? If you prefer to keep to a lower budget the 0-4 fixed swivel seats tend to work out cheaper than a baby seat and then the next size.

We had a fixed swivel seat from birth for DS, the Joie Ispin 360, and will be using a baby capsule from a friend for DC2 due as we're moving abroad in a couple of months.

Really though you'd be after @BertieBotts for anything car seat related. Resident guru Grin

Cybex cloud z is a swivel seat that can be added to some travel systems (we used ours with the uppababy vista v2) - found the ability to take it on and off the base so useful. Also this seat can recline on the pushchair frame (although not in the car). Suitable up to 18 months if I remember correctly. We've just bought another one for our second as we were so happy with it the first time round. Also you can get the next size car seat to fit the same isofix base which is handy

Hugasauras · 01/11/2022 20:18

Bear in mind that the 360 seats are weight-based (18kg max) and can be grown out of long before the age of 4 if you have a high centile child. DD was out of hers before 3 and if I was doing it again I would go straight from infant carrier to 25kg ERF seat. Saves a lot of money and the sides on ERF seats are pretty low so it's easy to get them in even without swivel function.

Hugasauras · 01/11/2022 20:22

Also most of the fixed spin seats don't offer good fits for newborns, even the ones that say from birth. Definitely one for @BertieBotts as she will know more specifics, but I can't think of any 0-4 spin seats that actually are good for newborn positioning.

Personally I would get a decent infant carrier, like a Maxi Cosi or Avionaut Pixel Pro with adaptors for pram and then a 25kg ERF seat such as Maxway Plus, or Mini Kid. The other alternative is a Avionaut Sky 25kg seat which is one of the only (maybe the only?) ERF seat that has a good fit for newborns, then you only need one seat (but it's a fixed seat so won't go on pram).

Another vote for the cybex cloud z.

We used it with the adapters on an icandy pram. Big advantage is that it fully reclines when on travel system, so safer than leaving baby in normal infant carrier position when out of the car.

Sunshinegirl82 · 01/11/2022 20:31

I think the maxi cosi 360 is a spin isofix base that you can add an infant carrier to and then an 18kg seat once infant carrier is outgrown. As opposed to the fixed spin seats (like the joie 360 and Cybex sirona) which you couldn't use with a buggy.

I think Cybex do a similar set up with a spin base and options for an infant carrier and then 18kg seat using the same base.

Auntiealie · 01/11/2022 20:33

We got the cybex and the uppababy vista. Fantastic purchase.

fyn · 01/11/2022 20:37

We have the cybex cloud clipped onto our bugaboos but it also goes straight into the cybex gazelle which is much more lightweight. The cloud is a really well rated safe car seat and you can get the whole travel system for about £1,000 - www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/products/cybex-gazelle-s-travel-system-deep-black?variant=39317663219790&currency=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAjwh4ObBhAzEiwAHzZYU6u2va6xnvL4fFQSdpHh3krUQd9l7G3qYJqrcdKteZQDtJwhfGMEMxoCm_8QAvD_BwE

We went to the Baby Show and bought the Mamas & Papas Ocarro travel system with the Cybex Cloud Z swivel car seat and all the fixings. So excited to start using it in January! We heard swivel car seats really save your back, and the Cloud Z lies flat on the pram so is better for newborns and seems like a no-brainer:

We paid £600 less at the Baby Show for almost this exact bundle (no bag, but got a rain cover)!! Well worth the entry price and would recommend it to anyone.

Captain1822 · 01/11/2022 22:19

We have the MaxiCosi 360 pebble with the 360 isofix base and it has been a life saver for us! We also have the Mamas and Papas Ocarro which comes with car seat adapters which are pretty universal.
I know M+P also do a bundle with the Cloud Z but we preferred the maxi cosi car seat overall so opted to buy the pram bundle and car seat separately.
Black Friday sales will be your friend, M+P always have good deals on!

YorkshireTeaCup · 01/11/2022 22:24

Maxi Cosi Pebble 360 spins and clipped onto our Uppababy Vista (with a couple of official adapters). The base then also works with the Maxi Cosi Pearl 360, which also spins.

Merryclaire · 03/11/2022 08:16

Another vote for Maxicosi Pebble with 360 base. We have an iCandy Peach pram.

I agree with this. I stopped clipping the car seat onto the pram after a few months as baby got heavier. I started getting awful back pains doing this.

Swivel seat on the other hand has been great, and now he's a little older he can climb in himself.

Fleur405 · 03/11/2022 08:25

as others have said the cybex cloud z is what you are looking for. It’s good for the pram because it reclines flat. We use it in a cybex pram (we definitely did not pay £2.5k) but have seen plenty people use it with other prams. You just have to check that the brand of pram you’re looking at is compatible (with a suitable adapter).

Fleur405 · 03/11/2022 08:27

Shows cloud z compatibility. But you’ll need to double check it’s up to date.
