Itchy Baby Eczema, is Aveeno any good?

Hello my 9 month baby has very itchy eczema in the creases of his arms and legs also his face. I’ve heard aveeno used for baby eczema. Does anymore have any success with these products and which aveeno product in particular should I use because they have different types. Thank you!

Poor little one! My DS also battled eczema as a baby. We tried Aveeno but it made it worse for him. Each baby is different. What worked for us was Aproderm (www.medino.com/product/aproderm-colloidal-oat-cream-500ml?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=p-shopping-uk-smart&gclid=CjwKCAjwh4ObBhAzEiwAHzZYU84gQUQCY14HSa9Qvw4YXxs377eeLBoROF6lHrZxv3hB9phlVLSKaxoCv6EQAvD_BwE) with a layer of Aquaphor Healing Ointment Baby (got it off Amazon). Also for washing and bathing Stelatopia (Mustela) cleansing oil for atopic skin is very good m.feelunique.com/p/Mustela-Stelatopia-Cleansing-Oil-500ml. Face cream again Stelatopia m.feelunique.com/p/Mustela-Hydra-Bebe-Facial-Cream-40ml?utm_source=GoogleBaseUK&utm_medium=gen&curr=GBP. This is what I would personally recommend. Good luck!

I can also vouch for aproderm. Does miracles for my 5 month old. Was prescribed zeroderm but the GP but did nothing. Switched to aproderm and it is 100 times better

The Aveeno with ceramides worked well for my DD1.

It is a bit pricey just to try though but the tub is very large.

I have appalling eczema which has resulted in me being hospitalised. My elder son is a GP, he was very concerned about eczema in his child. He and his wife didn’t ever bathe my grandson, he’s 3 now and has only ever been wiped where he’s grubby.
Up to you but you could try just wiping the grubby bits and see if it helps.

Hugasauras · 01/11/2022 20:46

Oh and at 3.5 she's totally outgrown it now. It stopped at around 18 months and has never come back 🤞so hopefully it will be the same for you!

Our DS has eczema at a similar age, we were recommended to put some coconut oil in the bath and use moisturiser after every bath. Aveeno didn't do anything for him, but I agree you have to try a few things before you find something that works. It was gone by the time he was 2, occasionally flares up when the weather changes.

Abridget7 · 01/11/2022 21:02

Aveeno worked for us (the soothing relief emollient) but honestly it really is trial and error with finding a moisturiser to treat eczema - what works for one child won't necessarily work for another. We tried & tested a lot of products. My DS grew out of by time he was 18months old.

johsq20 · 01/11/2022 21:04

Depends on the baby. Aveeno dermexa is the only thing that worked for us.

suzyscat · 02/11/2022 12:52

Aveeno didn't help mine at all which Jan weird way was a relief as I try to avoid J&J products and also hate the smell.

O'Keefes body repair is our go to now. It was a game hanger, but we didn't discover it until DS was older so no idea if it's okay for wee ones.

Vinorosso74 · 02/11/2022 13:05

No, it really didn't help. Don't try Childs Farm either, awful stuff.
We used doublebase or cetraben cream for moisturising. Oilatum was prescribed for the bath but that wasn't good, we found ZeroAQS good in the bath. We also found the heavy greasy creams made it worse.
Our GP referred us to a nurse led eczema clinic which was good (apart from the grumpy nurse who suggested getting rid of our dear old cat, err no, it's worse away from home). No idea if these still happen.
Steroid creams are good to clear any flare ups but will need to be prescribed and follow the instructions.

Aveeno worked for us

xxxemzyxxx · 02/11/2022 20:19

Aveeno didn't do much for me little boy. The only thing we found that really helps keep it at bay is Moogoo Udder Cream. Has been a real saviour for us. As others ha e said, it's all trial and error

L0ts · 02/11/2022 22:57

Things that worked for us:

  • Only one bath a week and only ever in warm water for maybe 15 mins max.
  • No soap or bubble bath.
  • Keep skin covered as much as possible, my son was mostly in sleepsuits with a zip (he could open the poppers to scratch) until he was about 18 months old.
  • Fairy non bio washing pods, no softener and always put on an extra rinse.
  • Doctor okayed us to give Piriton when he was about 10 months old.
  • Best moisturiser we found was Doublebase Gel. Now he’s older (3.5 years old) when it flares up we don’t use any creams at all as it tends to make it worse but when he was a baby/toddler it seemed to help.
  • Kept a food diary and found he appeared to get worse when he (or I as he was breastfed) ate dairy wheat and tomatoes. Now he eats whatever and it doesn’t make much of a difference to his skin.
  • Avoided steroids at all costs as me and my brothers have all been through something called topical steroid withdrawal.
BeeDavis · 03/11/2022 22:13

My little boy has had eczema from birth! Got really really bad around 7/8 months old he was covered and it was horrendously itchy it really affected his sleep and he was always good sleeper. After months of the docs prescribing us creams and us also buying stuff, literally the only stuff that has worked is betnovate (steroid cream) I’m not joking we put it on his red areas the first night we got it, was gone the next day we honestly could not believe it! He doesn’t flare much now but when he does it’s a godsend! I have to get it from the docs everytime but we don’t need it much now.

whatdoyouthinkhonestly · 03/11/2022 22:19

MooGoo! AmazIng stuff

Shamoo · 03/11/2022 22:23

Aveeno made our daughter’s much worse. We used Balmans and it worked a treat..

Shamoo · 03/11/2022 22:24

Balmonds sorry!

Morechocmorechoc · 03/11/2022 22:36

Every kid is different. Aveeno baby soothing relief worked here. However we also used organic cotton clothing ensuring long trousers and sleeves to reduce skin contact in creases (I have eczema and can tell you that is vital). Use way less non bio washing powder and extra rinse. Also we removed allergens from food but I'd try others first as thats a whole other ball game.
