dd has just turned 2. i think she might be ready for potty training, but dont want to push it. Ive got a few days off in 3 weeks time, so will have 5 whole days and im quite prepared to not leave the house and give it a good go, but dont want to try if shes not ready iyswim.

She knows when she is weeing or pooing, sometimes she asks for the potty before, sometimes during and sometimes just after.

She knows wee and poo goes in the potty.

She sits on it and wipes herself.

She tries to take her trousers and nappy off while asking wee wee pot pot.

We did have 2 days in pants just after xmas but i went back to nappies as we only had a 50% hit rate! and i didnt want to push her.

So what do you think... or should i wait a bit longer>

Oh god, so hard to say, but having tried twice with DD 2.5yrs who showed all above signs but failed miserably, I'd probably suggest waiting. Most posts I've read on MN does tend to suggest it's so much easier, and quicker, the closer you leave it to 3 years. The first of my original AN group has just successfully potty trainer her DD who is now 2.6 years....no one else has managed yet. They kind of have to really WANT it, if you know what I mean

Even if your dd wont use the potty theres nothing wrong with sittin her on it after meals, before bed and at nappy changes just incase and to help her to get used to sitting on it. I've just started that with my ds at 14months so he associates it but with no expectations at all that he will use it.

my DD is 25 months old and been in pants since last tuesday and apart from the odd accident (which tends to be dribbles) is dry all day. I did not want to potty train but she kept taking her nappy off asking for potty so i didnt have much choice!
We did stay in for 3 days in a row to give her a good start and then since Friday we have used pull ups whilst out and pants at home.

hi
my DD is 2 and is showing all the signs that she wants to use the potty/toilet but at the moment she refuses to actually sit on the potty when doin a wee but will sit on it before and after i think it is more a trial and error thing so i would start slowly just putting her in knickers for a few hours at a time and build it up with the potty close to hand to tempt her into using it and get her used to it being near her. that is my strategy and we seem to have had altogether 6 hours of 'dry play' and 2 accidents she will decide to use the potty/toilet when she is ready and there is no harm in starting her off HTH
