Babywearing - please help me choose a sling for breastfeeding - huggababy or other?

My 2nd baby is due in February and I hope to buy a sling to be used from the early days. I've read lots of reviews and mumsnet threads, but am still finding it difficult to choose. I like the look of the Huggababy, but several m'net reviews mention them being quite hot. With DS I used a Wilkinet carrier a few times, but found that quite warm (although he was a summer baby), and no good for b'feeding so want to get it right this time.

Here are my criteria:
-suitable from birth (unlikely to use it to carry a toddler)
-breastfeeding possible (size 34G norks, which might make things interesting!)
-very easy to get on and off/load baby
-neck/back friendly-ish (although don't intend to use it for hours on end)
-secure enough that I won't be panicking about baby falling out every time I bend down to help DS go to the toilet etc.
-DH-friendly - fortunately we are similar sizes, with his shoulders slightly wider than mine, but he doesn't have my huge norks!
-price no more than about £40 (don't mind buying 2nd hand)
-prefer not to have a LONG dangly tail (Huggababy fine cos its all stitched together; short tail would be OK)

So...does anyone have any magic solutions for me please?

nappyaddict - I notice that you mention the close baby carrier.

I have a similar dilemma to pobletsmum (but longer to decide, as dc2 not due until Oct).

I already have a baby bjorn active which we used lots with dd, but would also like something which I can feed baby in this time around.

My norks are even bigger (both ways) than pobletsmum, and cannot imagine how one feeds a baby in a sling, but if people can convince me this is possible in a close baby carrier then I quite like the look of it (and like Claire Scott following her discussion on here).

Are you any closer to a decision pobletsmum? Maybe you could get a cbc and let me know if you can feed in it ok or not .

Right, after 6 infuriating days of my internet connection not working (GRRRRR!!!) I'm back. Thanks for all your ideas. I'll answer all of the questions as best I can.

  • No, I'm no closer to a decision.
  • DS is 2;8, and still will be when baby born (this month - eek!). I haven't been carrying him for most of my pregnany other than lifting him onto toilet, although at home he can do this himself using a step. I've 'trained' him to climb into his car seat, and generally he doesn't need to be picked up.
  • My main uses for a sling would be to enable me to spend time with both children at once and hopefully feeding on the go. With DS I was quite good at feeding whilst walking around/making a drink/answering phone etc. when the need arose, without using a sling, but thought a sling might be better for this.
  • I am not worried about using a sling long-term, I'd rather get one that is perfect for now than trying to get one that's a compromise now but good later.
  • Have had a good look at the close carrier and really like the look of it, but have 3 concerns. 1. I'm not sure how easy feeding would be as it seems baby is worn quite high, and my boobs might be too low? Anyone have experience of this? 2. I would like to be able to remove sleeping baby without waking him/her but this looks as though it would be tricky with Close. 3. The Close carrier looks a bit faffy to tie etc.

I'm looking forward to hearing from any of you again if you're still there after the long delay in replying.

Best wishes for Oct CantSleep.
