Bimbles for first baby - where can i buy them? What else do i need?

Hi

I would like to use real nappies with my first baby and quite like the look of the Bimbles (quick dry version).

Could someone tell me:
What wrap do i need?
What else do i need to make nappy complete (liners, boosters etc..)?
How many will i need for a newborn?
Where would be the best place to buy them?
Is it possible to buy them second hand?

Thanks Lcy

Motherease are the most reliable wrap - I find rikki give a good fit on newborns. Bambinex are very similar, have softer bindings.

Bimbles are fleece lined so you don't have to have any kind of liner if you don't want to because newborn poo just shoots straight through and washes off in the machine. You will only need boosters once baby starts sleeping through the night - I would recommend just getting microfibre cleaning cloths and folding them up for boosters.

Newborns tend to need 18-24 nappies and 4-6 wraps allowing you to wash every 2-3 days. You can get away with less if you tumble dry. Bear in mind that breastfed babies tend to poo at each feed for the first couple of weeks, so will need a fresh nappy every 3 hours day and night, so just factor in that when working out your numbers.

Best place to buy them - I have to say me Seriously, if you look in the MN Small Business section here you will find a few of us who sell cloth nappies (I am Bumfluff) Tis always an idea to mention you are an MNer and you might get special offers.

You can buy second hand on several sites - I have a classifieds section, as do a few other shops, you can buy and sell on usednappies.com, clothnappyaddicts.co.uk and ukparentslounge amongst others.

Oh, I have some bimbles sat here that my friend might be selling too if you want me to ask her for a price?

Lcy · 28/01/2008 15:19

Thanks for all that info - yes please ask your friend if she wants to sell! I will have a look at your small business section now

FlameNFurter · 05/02/2008 23:06

Hiya,

I dunno if you sorted any elsewhere or not, but my friend says £4 each, there are 10 or 11 in total. I was meant to be playing with dye on 5 of them, am happy to pretty colour them still if you want, just let me know

vixo · 09/02/2008 18:05

Flame, have you sold those bimbles? Have ordered a couple of different types of nappies from your website but DH seems to like the bimbles best, so looking to get some more of them. Would be interested if they're still around - or will prob buy some direct from the website! Thanks

Flamesparrow · 09/02/2008 18:52

I haven't - I will CAT Lcy first (it seems wrong to sell em on if she hasn't seen the thread iyswim), if she isn't interested though then they are yours

vixo · 10/02/2008 17:17

Thanks, let me know if they're still available.

Flamesparrow · 13/02/2008 20:11

Hmmm... I have just opened this lot out, and they look tiny I am going to email my mate and check if they are size 1 or size 0!!

Will update later. I haven't managed to track down lcy so they are yours if you want em as and when I work out the size

vixo · 14/02/2008 20:09

Thanks Flame, only just checked back today. Sorry, I'm new to this nappy lark - I thought the bimbles only came in one size, have I got it totally wrong??! Am looking for something that would be good for a newborn and not too bulky under clothes.

Flamesparrow · 14/02/2008 21:28

You get several different kinds of bimbles. Either birth to potty, or sized ones. The ones sold on most sites are size 1. The ones I have here look absolutely tiny though. Some are definitely size 1, some are either size 0 or a slightly different style.

They would be perfect for a newborn... I'm just not entirely sure how long they would fit for. Although thinking about it, her DD was 10lb odd born, so they can't be that small.

There are 10 in the bag (I think), plus 4 different small wraps. She says either £4 each or £50 for the lot.

Flamesparrow · 15/02/2008 11:48

Right - they ARE mainly size 0, but they fit her DD until 6 months, and she ain't a small child

preggersagain · 15/02/2008 12:01

Hello flame- now that i've found you- quick hijack, swaddlebees ocv- spent a small blardy fortune on the feckers and they will not stay on either baby for longer than 20 seconds, millie wriggles out of the top somehow and carys just ends up all lopsided and weird looking- help!! are they
a) too big
b) wraps to big
c) to be confined to looking pretty on the changer but never being used

twins are around 6 1/2 lbs ish btw!!

Right hi-jack over, sorry...........

OOOOOHH bimbles- never tried them but they are nice and fluffy

Flamesparrow · 15/02/2008 12:32

Sound too big (sorry), although a tighter wrap might hold it on better like prefolds

vixo · 15/02/2008 14:59

They sound ideal, are they the ones with the flap that comes out to make them dry quicker? What's the best way to pay for them? Will go for the £50 for the lot if that's ok.

Flamesparrow · 15/02/2008 15:05

Some have the flap, some don't - but looking at the size of them, they shouldn't take too long to dry anyway! I forgot to think about postage - that would be £5. Can do paypal or bank transfer, or cheque - whatever you would prefer. My email is bumfluffnappies at gmail dot com. I'll see if she has a paypal account so we can get it sent direct to her

vixo · 15/02/2008 15:11

Will email you, thanks!

alysonpeaches · 18/02/2008 12:05

I have some bimbles for sale but they are size 2 I think so I expect they are no good to you. (see classifieds). I used them from about 6 months.

I thoroughly recommend them though, they were the nicest nappies in my stash.

You used to be able to buy them direct from Easy Peasy Nappies too.
