I think I may have found a foolproof method that doesn't involve combing every freakin' day - so let's kill the f*ers

It's certainly the most detailed and seems to actually understand the ludicrously complex lifecycle of the damn things.

That's made my head itch like mad!

robinredbreast · 28/01/2008 22:28

don't fancy looking at the link and then itching, but lol at the title !

nobodysfool · 28/01/2008 22:30

I didn't see that was a link at first,i just thought it was a general statement from onebatmother.

Well I read it through and ... gulp.... it looks simple. So will implement it next time.

Currently there are no lice in the Mars household but knowing children as I do this will probably not remain the staus quo!

Chuffinnora · 28/01/2008 22:50

Thanks for the link. I have saved it as a favourite (I never thought I would say that!) We are struggling with lice at the mo and somebody in the class isn't dealing with it.

bookwormmum · 28/01/2008 22:59

Was I the only person who started scratching their head reading it?

aefondkiss · 28/01/2008 23:11

good link and great title

I am paranoid about lice, I haven't found a live one yet but if my dd so much as scratches her head I get all itchy..

I have bookmarked the link for future reference

thanks onebat

onebatmother · 28/01/2008 23:18

no problem. We have been nit/louse free for about thirty seconds in the last 3 months. I am crazy for louse blood.

I have been looking for detailed pictures of lice, so I can recognise the beastards... I even watched a video of live lice on a human head that I found on the net, but I am still not sure what I am looking for...

ooh and I read somewhere about an electric nit comb, which bleeps when it finds live lice and electrocutes it/them, sounds a bit scary but.....

moodywren · 28/01/2008 23:30

Wish I'd had this info last year.

We moved schools in Sept and dd hasn't had them once this year, but last year we had them virtually all term time. It drove me crazy.

Will bookmark site for future ref. Thanks onebat.

Can't stop itching now

redpyjamas · 28/01/2008 23:37

So, have any of you ever experienced lice in afro hair? My girls are mixed race (or should I say "dual heritage" ;-) ), and I DREAD the day they get lice! I can barely get a wide-toothed comb through. Even when it has been heavily conditioned. Thankfully, I don't think the lice like the products that they put in their hair, as they have to date not been infected even though a couple of years ago I had lice myself and our heads touched a lot.

onebatmother · 28/01/2008 23:44

No redpyjamas, but a friend did when her ds had no products in [ouch] He's fully braided now btw. I think you'd have to blast and blast with all the various chems - too cruel to comb!

I don't use chemicals in my children's hair and they have afro hair.

Make sure the hair is properly oiled. Combing isn't difficult if the hair is looked after and brushed and oiled regularly. Also.. try plaiting it. That reduces the knots etc.

Afro hair isn't particularly difficult to look after.

redpyjamas · 29/01/2008 21:39

mars lady? do you mean you could get a nit comb through your children's hair?
I do sometimes plait their hair, but I'm not really very neat at it, and can't afford to get it done regularly at the hairdresser.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/01/2008 21:46

* WARNING* the electronic comb will give you a nasty jolt if you touch your ear.

Another vote here for the combing programme, not had lice since Playgroup 2 years ago, even though it is rife at school.

If you have boys a number 3 or 4 cut helps, the lice don't like very short hair.

Boco · 29/01/2008 21:49

Yuck, so basically, the babies fart their way out of the egg?

onebatmother · 29/01/2008 21:59

yes, i noticed that too Boco, with some dismay.

(Completely off the point but the thread title could be in German)

rantinghousewife · 29/01/2008 22:02

And they crap all over your head too, just for good measure.
