I'm stressing a bit at this. Baby is 4 months old. Today we went out for lunch and on the way home it poured down with rain. The rain over was over the pram but there was a flap at the back which I forgot to close. It's awful and I'm an idiot and hating myself right now.

The flap is netted but baby was screaming until we went in where I realised he was soaking wet. Mostly his head. Warmed him up, change of clothes feed etc and a while later a bath. He had a sleep and seems OK but im really stressed. I think some went in his mouth.

He has been a bit more upset than usual since we came home but not screaming.

What do I need to do? FTM so please be gentle

Please don't stress, he will be fine.

Keepitrealnomists · 23/10/2022 19:13

No need to worry, he will be just fine. It's easy to worry and stress over everything but he will be fine. Rain water is clean.

Chickenpeppers · 23/10/2022 19:13

He'll be absolutely fine, I've done the same thing before due to a tear in the pushchair cover. Once warm, dry and fed they forget about it, especially at that age.

He’ll be fine. Me and DD got caught in a massive rain storm with just the sling when she was about 6 weeks. I’ve never run home so fast, but she was fine one warm, dry and fed.

He will be fine don't worry! I've been caught out a few times with no cover when I thought it was sunny (uk weather eh!) - including yesterday at the pumpkin patch! Baby is fine as soon as all dry, you are probably thinking he's more restless because you're a bit worried. And worrying is also normal as a first time mum - you should see my google history 😊

Thank you all so much for commenting. I was really panicking. Its so scary this mum stuff! I think that's also it - I'm thinking he's more restless because I'm worried about it.

Was really beating myself up about it so it's nice to hear I'm not the only one who has been caught out by it.

Hes just had a feed and is snuggled with me in bed so hopefully forgotten it all already

When DS was a bit younger than your baby, I got him ready to walk into town. I changed him, popped him in his pramsuit and off we went. He screamed all the way there (1.5 miles) and all the way back and I couldn't work out why, he wasn't due a feed and it should've been his nap time but he just wouldn't sleep. When I got home I picked him up to discover he was soaked, I had changed his bum but forgotten to put his nappy back on. It was a cold day and the poor mite was wet and cold. He's now a 30 and a strapping 6ft 2. He suffered no ill effects that day and your little one will be just fine too. Please don't beat yourself up. You are human (and most likely tired), we all make mistakes Flowers

He'll be fine love promise x

Sometimes it can help to think "what would I do if it was me?". So imagine your head got soaked by cold rain and a bit went in your mouth - not nice but also not something to worry about once you've dried off and had a cuppa.

Babies are just small humans, you can relax once they stop screaming

I'm so glad people are being kind to you. When my daughter was a few months old I came on here for some reassurance and people were SO mean.

Please do not worry, we all make mistakes and do things like that, which we all kick ourselves over and stress. If you're worried, keep an eye on your baby's temp (back and chest) it won't matter if he got some in his mouth and I can't imagine what bad could come from being a little wet.

The fact that you're worried enough to come on here shows how much of a fab mum you are! Enjoy this time, it's lovely x

Thank you all again for your kind comments. Baby was absolutely fine and back to his usual giggly self today!

Was sick with worry, as you are with everything being a first time mum. Absolutely hated myself too for making such a stupid mistake.

Comments here made me feel so much better about it
