Should I wake baby at night?

Don't mean to sound like a dick with this as I'm sure there are others who are waking a lot but just a first time mam looking for advice...

Baby is 3 months old, but is small for her age, weighs around 4.5 - 5 kg. She is sleeping 11 - 12 hours at night. Should I be waking her through the night for a feed? During the day she would take 22 - 24oz

No!!!! Never wake a baby!! Enjoy your rest. I had a sleeper like that, now they’re starting to play up - make the most of it while you can. Mine was about that size, now on the 97th percentile at 2yrs. Please don’t worry, they will soon let you know when they’re hungry.

No! She’ll wake up if she’s hungry. Mine was like that at 3 months. Now at nearly 6 months she wakes up a lot at night (sob!). Enjoy the sleep while you can!

Never wake a sleeping baby!
They won’t starve in their sleep,

Knittedfairies · 23/10/2022 14:01

Unless your Health Visitor or other professional has suggested you wake your baby, I suggest you enjoy your sleep while you can!

No

No!!! Not unless they are unwell and you need to check on them.

Is she following her centile line?

Glittertwins · 23/10/2022 14:04

Leave her be, both of ours slept through 12 hours from 8 weeks old and being twins they were also smaller than average at that age too. Enjoy your uninterrupted sleep!

I was told that as long as they have regained birth weight then you are fine to let them sleep through. So you would be well past that stage.

Confusion101 · 23/10/2022 14:11

Thanks guys! That's exactly what I thought but was reading everywhere about them having a mid-night feed at this age so started panicking!

The midwives looked at me as if I was completely mad when I asked about this with my second...

My first was tiny and I was told to wake every 3 hours to feed if he hadn't woken.

I'd say that so long as your little one is putting on weight ok, you're fine to let them sleep unless told otherwise.

Cluelessfirstimer · 23/10/2022 18:47

Not at all hun. My little one was born small (on the 0.4 percentile line) and midwife said to only wake until he regained birth weight. People stress so much about babies weight but they are so different. Remember it kind of depends on genetics too. Both me and DP are tiny things so there was no way our baby was going to be a giant. As long as they don't drop off the percentile chart or a health professional has told you to for medical reasons I would not be waking that baby!!

Mine also slept 10 hours at night at 3 months. Going through a bit of a regression at the moment but before that was a great night time sleeper.

Enjoy your sleep and your little one will let you know when they want to eat xx

Cluelessfirstimer · 23/10/2022 18:50

Oh and last week he had jumped to the 25th percentile (he is 4.5 months old) so not waking him to eat when he was sleeping through had absolutely no impact on his weight gain what so ever
