Instrument practice: Let them get on with it, or listen every time?

My dd1 has been having violin lessons since September, she's very keen and loves to practise. I'm not sure whether to always sit and listen and give suggestions/criticize or whehter to let her get on with it?

Definitely just let her get on with it!

Oh how horrid! Definitely buy yourself some earplugs and only listen once a week before she goes to practice to see how much she has 'progressed'. I wouldn't bother to remove the earplugs though till she's passed grade 2!

Let her get on with it - you'll be able to hear her all over the house in any case so you will be hearing it! I agree with whomovedmychocolate - though personally I think listening to the violin once a week in the early stages is beyond the call of duty!

How old is she? Unless she's very young & needs the direction, or she's doing suzuki or somesuch where parental involvement is required for practise then I'd let her get on with it.

She will be 7 in May.

I'd have thought at 7 you might want to sit with her sometimes, but also let her get on with it sometimes too. You might find she's less keen to practise on her own, but it's a good idea (for your sanity if nothing else) to gently get her used to the idea.
