Suspected ADHD in DD

DD is 6 nearly 7, I’ve just come out of parents evening and the teacher (who is lovely and so understanding) has now agreed with me (I’ve been saying I’ve suspected ADHD since she was very small) that she sees my dd is struggling and also suspects ADHD.

Teacher has suggested speaking to the GP to get investigations going for a diagnosis.

She is struggling with impulse, mood swings, concentrating, very sensitive, very bright however distracted to the point she can’t process and learn.

She’s had to stop swimming lessons because she’s now regressing (back on armbands) because the public pool is so busy and distracting, she can’t ride a bike or scooter, struggles with coordination. She is however very bright, creative, empathic, caring and really disappointed in herself after being impulsive.

My DF and DB both have Aspergers and ADHD and I’ve had 2 CBT therapists say they think I also have ADHD and college tutors suspecting Dyslexia and Dyscalculia (I haven’t gone through with diagnosis though).

Im going to call the GP tomorrow but any other suggestions?

Teacher suggested getting some books around exploring feelings with her- any recommendations?

Thank you!

Hi my Dd is similar. It’s hard but getting the right help early is good but you have to fight for it.
try the colour monster - book
best of luck

There's a really good YouTube channel called HowToADHD which has a lot of things like how your brain works, coping strategies etc. My personal favourite is the jar of glitter for emotional regulation.

Great recommendations, thank you so much.

Im trying not break down and cry my eyes out in all honesty. The diagnosis and LD has ruined my DB life (as he puts it), he struggles daily (in his late 20s).

Really worried for her future 😔

Not going to lie, it isn’t easy.
but things have got a little better as she has got older.
it is isolating. I’d suggest finding parents in a similar position if you can. Has made me feel much less alone x
