Any other parents out there with bad anxiety? How do you do it?

Just wondering if there are a few of us out there that struggle.

All my mum friends seem to be so calm and breezy about any illnesses or injuries but I have constant (and often debilitating) anxiety that something is wrong with my child.

I have had CBT in the past and know some techniques to get through it but some days are a massive struggle tbh.

I've lost count of the number of conditions I've diagnosed my DD with via Google and worked myself into a state.

I'm determined to get on top of this but thought if there are a few of us on here we could have a chat and offer support!

Medication. I was adamant I wasn't going to pass this down to my children so got myself a prescription and it honestly changed my life.

Do you mind me asking which @Ohwellwhateverthen ?

I've tried sertraline several times and hated it so much its stopped me going down that road.

I took sertraline. Did you power through the side effects or give up early? Youve got to push through the first month or so.

Shamefully I gave up after over a week the first time and only a few days the second. It just made me so anxious and I had a newborn the second time and I just felt like I couldn't spend weeks that way. Perhaps I should give it another try now shes older and about to start nursery so I have a little breathing room.

Thanks for replying x

Sertraline, gave me my life back. But if sertraline doesn't work for you, there are other medications that you can try. I also had a lot of CBT which helped to a point but sertraline was magic once I got through the side effects.

TheSmallestOneWasMadeline · 20/10/2022 15:24

Well this morning I decided enough was enough and phoned my GP. Amazingly j got a phone slot morning and she was lovely and happy for me to try the sertraline again.

Took my first tablet at noon and now I feel utterly shite. Jittery, nauseous, just how I remember it 😔

But I will power through for the sake of my daughter, I cant go on this way.

I have CPTSD related anxiety, so not the same as health related anxiety.

CBT, EMDR, group therapy, all useless. I finally caved and took the Pregabalin and Diazepam that my Psych prescribed me (after over a decade of things like SSRIs/SNRIs/TCAs/MAOIs which were also useless) alongside the beta blockers I was taking when a panic attack started.

Hi. Sorry you are feeling like this. I completely understand. I feel the same.

I have had sertraline before and agree with the others. You have to get through those first few weeks, then the benefit is really there.

You can do it 💪

What sort of side effects. I've just had a complete loss of a day because something slightly stressful happened and k feel overwhelmed and can't manage

TheSmallestOneWasMadeline · 20/10/2022 16:39

Thank you for the kind comments.

The first time around for the initial side effects were even more horrific than usual anxiety, unable to sleep/eat and the sickness. The second time I tried it looked like it would be similar and with a tiny baby I couldn't bear it. Third time seems like it will be same again!

Oh and jaw clenching!! I forgot about that one until right now 😫

I had terrible jaw clenching, also I was yawning all the time and every time I yawned it was like I was about to throw up, very odd sensation. It's normal for your anxiety to feel worse for a few weeks, I really would try to push through. Do you have a supportive partner who can take the load off you for a bit while you get through these first weeks?
