Hi all, can anyone recommend something to help an 18 month old with a bad cough? He has had a cough for the last week but it wasn't too bad and GP just recommend broncho stop but tonight it's awful. It's very chesty and constant. I'v him in bed with me as he gets upset but can't do anything to help iv gave him nurofen & bronchostop,
My GP is closed tomorrow aswell 🫠

Bronchostop made my DD worse, I found giving her a spoon of honey before bed helped it coat her throat a bit, also running the hot tap in the bath and sitting in the steam helped loads when she was like that. Hope he's feeling better soon it's awful when there's not much you can do to help.

Sorry that your child is unwell.

I worked on a research study which showed that simple honey, lemon juice and warm water was more effective in suppressing a cough, than majority of the (expensive) cough syrups on the market. Do you have these at home to help?

What does the cough sound like? Croupy- barking and hoarse? Any fever? Have you checked him for covid?

Not quite barky but it is rough and constant. I'm starting to think maybe it so croup he had temperatures thurs & Friday but nothing since. I have no lemon juice but will get some tomorrow, hot honey & lemon is what I normally would take myself for a cough.
It will be a long night as the coughing is constant 😔

Meant to say iv done an antigen test and it's negative, a few other children from his room in Creche have the same symptoms! Good form this morning but he was coughing all night. I ended up giving him the ventolin inhaler at 2.30 and leaving the window open and he slept solid until 5 🫠

My DD is just getting over this. I put Vicks on her chest, back and feet (with socks), humidifier in the room, window open a bit and the Calpol plug in (as she had blocked nose too). Didn’t stop the coughing completely but it did help.

I did similar last night actually! I'm doing a pharmacy course and asked our tutor today for advice and he recommended eputex cough medicine and nasal saline spray. Didn't give him the cough medicine as he said he would cough more but remove all the mucus but his ventolin inhaler and nasal spray seems to have helped at the minute anyway!
