How much formula do I give my ds?

Midwife mentioned that I'm oveŕfeeding my baby but could they be wrong? I just checked the guidelines and it says between 150-200 ml per kg of weight. My ds is 3.02kg and is drinking 90ml every 3 hours which I think is normal range. 3.02 x 200 ÷ 6 = 100ml. He's having 90 which I think is normal.

Sorry no help with your answer as I know nothing about formula feeding, but is the 6 in the equation a number of bottles? If so, and he eats every 3h, that gives 8 bottles in 24h, so equals around 75ml I think.

You cant put a baby on a diet so as long as you are feeding to appetite I would ignore the hv

Feed on demand if they’re hungry they’ll take the bottle and if they’re not they won’t.
My DS was allways an ounce per bottle over what it said on the side of the box.

All babies are so different. As long as you aren't forcing it and he isn't constantly throwing it back up its fine. Baby clearly needs it.

HVs alway goes on about over feeding but all babies are so different.

My little one was an oz under what the box said at the start now is about an oz over.

^ this is good advice. I honestly can't understand what the HV wants you to do. Leave your baby hungry?!

I actually think I had a similar post a few months ago now I think about it. One thing I've learnt since then is really try not to obsess over it. Baby will make it pretty clear if he is having too much

It tells you on the box the amount to make up for the weight of the baby per feed.

My little girl always had more than the guidelines said. So I had a chunky baby (born 25 percentile and soon went up to 90) but with the weaning it slowed now. She's 9 months now and not interested anymore in formula, drink less than the guidelines suggest.
I found that midwifes and health visitors here zealously fallow these guidelines and don't always take it into consideration that ever baby is different with different needs. Some of them hungrier than others. I actually loved the fact that my baby drunk formula like crazy; it made me feel I have a healthy, happily growing little one.

Ignore the hv.. honestly they're never happy with what we're feeding or not feeding our kids is what I've always found

They told my SIL to stop giving my niece so much milk and then when she cut it down had an issue with that too!

My little one never took a dummy until he was a year and a half old (i assume because of teething) up until then HV always recommended it and now he takes it she says it will affect his speech 😂 like make up your mind!!

Are you paced feeding?

parsniiips · 19/10/2022 08:57

You can't over feed a baby, they will refuse milk or throw it back up if they don't need it.

The box guidelines are an estimate depending on weight and age but it's not the same for every baby.

I would feed loosely on demand while ensuring they are having it spaced out equally throughout the day.

My baby boy is 5 weeks old. He loves his milk (formula) and he seems to never be satisfied!!! I have been increasing his feed from 90ml to more recently 150ml each feed. He has around 6 feeds in 24h. Today he screamed for more earlier than usual. He seems to never be satisfied and bottles are always empty. Is this normal? Should I give him more???! I am scared I will overfeed him.

He never lost weight and last week I tried to weight him at home on our scales and it seemed around 4.15kg.

help a desperate mum plz
