Allergies besides cows milk?

Hi all

DD2 screams during and after each feed. She is exclusively breastfed.

Initially we put this down to reflux from her aspirin prescription but she's been off it for a week now so surely that will have left her system?

I've also cut out cows milk from my diet. It's been 4 days but I've seen no difference whatsoever.

I've tried gaviscon but no joy. Gripe water and Infacol don't make any difference either. After every burp she screams and cries until she falls asleep.

I'm reluctant to try omeprazole.

I just wondered if she could be allergic to anything else that's passing through in my milk?

Cutting out cows milk / products takes 2-4 weeks to be completely gone from your breastmilk (from memory) so it’s not a quick fix.

Are they gaining weight alright? Guessing you have tried all the daily massages and moving digestive systems etc.

From a breastfeeding point of view is their latch ok? Not swallowing too much air? Do you feed with them more upright? Make sure it’s flagged to your HV as they may suggest weaning early (4months) rather than waiting till 6 months

I think other allergy’s are rare, but some other people might be along to correct me.

I knew it takes longer than a few days but I thought I'd at least see SOME improvement.

DD1 was also intolerant to cows milk, but she responded well to gaviscon so I couldn't remember how long it took for her to feel better after I stopped milk.

Yes, she is latching well and gaining weight. I feed her using the cradle hold method I think it's called? The most common one, sitting up with her lying across me. I do hear her gulping when feeding, but I don't know how to combat that.

I've tried feeding her laid back, but it hasn't made a difference.

Sounds like your doing all the right things and it must be so frustrating. You are doing a great job and hopefully in a few months it will have settled.

No contraception is better than a crying / colic baby! Sorry I’ve not been able to help

When my son had a suspected intolerance I was advised by a dietician to cut out dairy and soy (which sadly is many non dairy products) and to do so for at least 4 weeks before we could rule it out.

Out of interest, what's holding you back from trying Omeprazole?

It's been a total gamechanger for our 4 month old DD. She's a different kid now, even increased bowel movements too which she was struggling with.

It's probably soy. Despite it being a plant, soy protein is very very similar to milk protein and an awful lot of babies with milk allergies are allergic to soy as well.

My DS was allergic to dairy/CMPA, soy, coconut and reacted to high levels of histamines too (mainly strawberry and tomato).

Try switching to oat or nut milk substitutes?

But it does take a couple of weeks to completely clear your system.

You may find she's more sensitive to irritants and laxatives too, whilst her gut heals. So sorbitol (sweetener), sweet potato (maltose I think?) and coconut.

I've read a lot on MN about the acid coming back with a 'vengeance' when babies come off it.

Also hubby is pharmacist and he isn't keen.

But she's had an awful crying episode again; literally screaming for the last half an hour in pain. Omeprazole might be the only option.

Okay will definitely try eliminating soy out of my diet and hope that it makes a difference!

Does anyone know the difference between aptamil pepti 1 and pepti 2? I have some leftover tins of pepti 2 from DD2 but I know it's made for babies 6mo+. I'd love to try it with DD1 to see if she responds well to it.

Ugh I meant I have spare from DD1 that I'd like to try with DD2.
