So iv started weaning baby at 6 months

Have tried stuff like baby rice (know it's not recommended anyone but was just as a starter) carrot and brocoli, stewed apple, banana, gonna try boiled egg today

I only give her small amounts of one of these once a day

My question is, when does these replace a bottle or when do u reduce amount in a bottle

Any advice welcome

Thanks

Jumping on your thread as have a nearly 5 month old. My HV told me "before 1 just for fun" and that the majority of their intake should be from milk still until then...

But keen to watch this thread from mamma's who have been through it. I've not even started and my mind is blown by it all already.

Unless baby has a known allergy or there's ones in the family, I'd just crack on and give them a selection of food. I used to hand over bits of my lunch to start and see how DC would get on. Added in breakfast and dinner after about a month or so. DD1 loved food from the start and started to refuse a bottle/drink less from about 8 months. DD2 was slower to get going and I ended up having to cut down a bottle to get her to eat a decent sized meal but then took to it really well.

Hi - start off with small amounts and you’ll notice as time goes on they eat more and more real food (don’t expect much early on!) and they’re not as hungry for their next bottle. try and feed them at the same time each day when a) they’re not tired, and b) they’re not starving or full - which doesn’t leave a huge window. One thing I would say is space out the new foods - egg for example is an allergen so introduce it on its own

what you will find is that if you feed them at the same time each day, and as time goes on, your baby will “drop” a feed. I think mine dropped his 2nd bottle of the day first.

I didn’t actually reduce the volume, I just dropped the bottles entirely. Then his bottle feed becomes a meal and naturally you drop them - there isn’t enough time to squeeze in all the bottles, meals and naps and it will naturally fall into place.

the food before 1 is just for fun advice is a bit dangerous - agree milk is the main source of nutrients, but they do need to be offered a variety on a regular basis including difference textures etc. they can’t get to their first birthday and for it not to have been introduced properly otherwise they won’t know what’s hit them!

When they stop wanting as much. If they are nearly 7 months and only had 5 different foods you may want to consider speeding up and think about iron rich food as well as introducing the top allergens to reduce the risk of developing allergies.
