Car sickness - any tips

Hi all - any tips on how to help with car sickness? My DD is 18 months and it's only really started over the past 6 months that nine times out of ten if we go for a drive longer than 15/20mins inevitably DD is sick! We have tried to avoid any feeding/snacks a few hours before longer journeys but didn't make any difference!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I put DD in the front, it was the only thing that helped properly until she could wear the child wrist bands. I never used the tablets as I didn't want her sleeping and/or groggy all the time.

Is she rear-facing? If so, this is probably the trigger. I still can't travel rear or sideways facing on a bus or train, and have to sit forward-facing.

I’m exactly the same as the previous poster. Can’t go backwards without vomiting. Being able to see out of the front window makes all the difference.

Also, I find travelling on an empty stomach makes me feel worse. Maybe it’s the same for your dc?

Forward facing

Knacker them out so they fall asleep in the car hopefully before puking
Rubber bib to catch some of it

DC1 did this from a similar age. GP wouldn't prescribe anything under age 5.

On long journeys I used to sit in the back with a bowl and try and catch it. Now DC is older we have taught them to ask for (and use) a bowl, and everything is much more manageable.

In the front forward facing with the airbag off.

Make them the designated driver once they're 17 😂😂😂

@hedgehoglurker No been forward facing for a while now (never really liked rear facing even when not getting car sick).

Will try the front seat test....

My other requirement (apart from forward facing) is to have air blowing on my face. So a front seat with air vents turned on and directed to my face really helps with this. If you have rear vents, you could try this in the back.

A savoury snack or ginger biscuit is often helpful too.

This might sound ridiculous but i get terrible motion sickness but if i cover the window or my eyes it's a bit better. Could you put some kind of screen over the window like a sun shade type one it may stop some of the queasiness
