Is this CMPI?

Hi there,

I was hoping someone in a similar boat could help me please.

My 4 month old has comic and silent reflux and mainly cries in the evenings when it ramps up. She's a good sleeper and otherwise happy during the day.

She's been on Omeprazole for a few weeks which seemed to help a bit... the GP doesn't think it's CMPI but I'm not convinced as she was very constipated until we put her on Aptamil comfort/ used coleif.

She was comi fed but is now fully formula fed.

I can't work out if this is CMPI or if she just has reflux in the evening, any help would be so welcome. I really don’t actually want to put her on a super hydrolysed formula for fear of it causing an intolerance.

Many thanks!

My daughter had CMPA but she had greeny frothy poos as opposed to constipation.

However, her symptoms were ongoing. It didn't matter what time of day or night she was ALWAYS crying.

She's now 18 months and she grew out of her intolerance at around 15 months. She now drinks pure cows milk. So no, hydrolysed formula won't lead to an intolerance.

Try it, and see how your baby reacts.

DD had CMPA and was NEVER happy. Cried constantly, no pattern to it, constipated and nothing helped. I can’t imagine it’s CMPA if she’s a good sleeper and happy during the day.

Ah ok thank you for your experiences… cmpa always seems to have a few symptoms and I thought constipation, colic and reflux could have been it, but they aren’t typical of cmpa.

When I say good sleeper, I mean she goes 4 hours at a time by the way, she doesn’t sleep through.

i think I’ll try giving the Omeprazole at 4/5pm right before the reflux ramps up instead of the morning. Then if no joy I’ll try the hydrolysed formula.

Ahh ok good to know that hydrolysed formula doesn’t cause an intolerance, I’m not sure why I thought that! Sleepy haze of two under two!

I can understand why you'd think it.

When you eliminate something from a child's diet they are more likely to develop that allergy when they start weaning, so the same would make sense for infants right?

Hope you get to the root cause of your baby's fussiness.

Another thing that could help is osteopathy. It is controversial, but I did it with my eldest and it really helped.
