So I'm a new mum so not breastfed before not sure what's normal or not, my little boy is 2months on Monday, since he was born he's always fed for a good time anything from 40 minutes to an hour, now he's literally doing 5-10 minutes (bit longer at night) and falling asleep, everything I've looked up seems to suggest it's a growth spurt but it's been going on for about a week now and I just can't shake the feeling that it just doesn't seem right....?
I'm not a panicky person at all but it does concern me that he's not feeding for as long, he's still doing wet napppies minimum of 5 a day, odd dry one at night, but soaked the next time, he has been suffering with constipation so he's also on lactulose but can anyone put my mind at ease...is this normal he he getting his full feed in the 10 minutes, I'm nervous after spending so long getting my supply up that as he's not feeding for as long that it's going to go down....? Any help

Since my baby figured out the latch and we went trough establishing my supply and cluster feeding he's the same, sometimes less than 5 minutes of feeding and he's satisfied, as if he mastered it now. I would've thought that as long as there is plenty of wet and dirty nappies and your LO gains weight all os good:) maybe call HV just to be sure.

If he’s producing plenty of wet nappies and seems content then sounds fine. However, weigh him weekly and see if he’s gaining weight - that will give you certainty.

Yes wet and dirty nappies and gaining weight are a good sign. As babies grow they get much more efficient at breastfeeding so can have a full feed much quicker. As long as he's still feeding regularly your body is still receiving signals to produce milk - he is just more efficient at emptying your breast

Thank you guys! So glad to know he's not the only one, he's doing ok try of wet nappies, if he's had lactulose then he produces a few dirty nappies but not everyday, he gets very distressed and upset if he hasn't pooped.
I'm also finding he's sleeping and awful lot more then usual literally falling asleep on my boob, if I was to feed him and put him down sometimes he will perk up and be up for a couple hours but sometimes like today he'll just go straight back to sleep....? Is that okay to? I mean he's nearly two months but he's usually been a night sleeper only, lately again the last week or so he's been asleep most of the time

Why do you think your exclusively breastfed baby is constipated? Is he having some formula?

smileygirl1995 · 15/10/2022 18:31

Honestly I have no idea, the doctor said it does happen it is less common but it does happen.
He really cries, he's grunting and red faced, lets it a few pops but then nothing else and just gets more upset, he can go days without anything and then when he does go it's rather thick and paste like, he's much calmer and contented after he's been but it's just getting him to go that's the issue.

Constipation looks like rabbit droppings. Infrequent poos after the first 6 weeks is not unusual for exclusively breastfed babies.
