Please help, I'm a first time mom and this is my DD's first cold. Started with a chesty cough yesterday which got worse overnight. She seemed in good spirits this morning but now that it's naptime she's crying hysterically and can't go to sleep. No fever. I managed to get her a little calpol but she refuses to eat.

What's normal for a cold and when should i worry?

She is bottle fed but completely refuses it now. She's barely eaten since last night...

That all sounds fairly normal, you would want to watch for high fever, laboured breathing and wheezing in my experience.

She needs fluids so try and get Calpol in so her throat hurts less and hopefully she'll drink. Syringe feed if necessary. Or maybe some fruit puree pouches if she eats those. You could put it in the fridge so it's soothing on her throat.

I always use saline drops and a NoseFrida nasal aspirator to clear my babies' noses when sick and it really helps with sleep and feeding.

Thank you! I did manage some calpol eventually and she fell asleep. Will try more milk later. Poor thing, she must be miserable... Hope it goes away soon!

Hi, i had same few weeks ago with my 7 month old. Best tip i was given is to put calpol string into the bottle teat and it worked a treat my baby had all her calpol as she was thinking it was her milk. Hope that helps and she feels better soon
