How old is baby? I thought you only needed to wake to feed until they regained birth weight... or weight issues

usbjsun · 14/10/2022 12:50

Depends how old he is

KangarooKenny · 14/10/2022 12:53

How old is he ?If he’s putting on weight, you don’t need to wake him.
At what time does he eventually wee ?

I had to wake my little one every 3 hours until he was about 3 weeks. Once he had surpassed birth weight and no longer jaundice I was told to stop. I certainly wasn't waking him once he was sleeping through at about 3 months (isn't sleeping through now but that's a whole other story)

WaltzingWaters · 14/10/2022 12:55

Depends how old he is. I only woke mine for the first couple weeks until he was gaining a good amount of weight again.

CatJumperTwat · 14/10/2022 12:56

OP says in her other thread that he's eight-weeks-old today.

outtheshowernow · 14/10/2022 12:57

I wouldn't be waking a sleeping baby unless he was underweight

Dingalingo · 14/10/2022 13:01

What did you want her to say? If you’re happy with him sleeping and he’s weeing then I’m not sure what outcome you were hoping for - HV has obviously heard that something doesn’t seem right to you so has offered a solution. Personally I wouldn’t wake.

wishuponastar1988 · 14/10/2022 13:02

My 9 week old didn't wee overnight and I called 111 - doctor told me that if she is having at least 6 wet nappies 24 hours and is otherwise well it's fine and nothing to worry about.

wishuponastar1988 · 14/10/2022 13:03

Personally I wouldn't wake a baby unless they needed a feed as they were dehydrated/sick/weight concerns

Teaandcrumpets95 · 14/10/2022 13:04

My son was the same from around 10 weeks only until around 20 weeks- he just didn't wee overnight until 730/8am.

But he would then fill 2 nappies in like and hour and a half. If it's like that I wouldn't worry and I wouldn't wake him.

Cluelessfirstimer · 14/10/2022 13:11

If baby is 8 weeks and no weight issues I definitely wouldn't be waking them to feed. I also got told its the wet nappies over 24 hrs- didnt matter when they were.

Sheyes180 · 14/10/2022 15:10

When i discussed his nappy...she picked up on the length of time he was asleep after his last feed before he went down for the night

If he's regained birth weight and is putting on weight then I wouldn't wake him to feed. How much milk is he taking in a 24 hour period?

Endlesslaundry123 · 14/10/2022 17:43

I would not be waking the baby.... when baby wakes, try and do a long feed, both breasts, stroke their face to keep awake....

Sparklybees · 14/10/2022 22:49

I never woke mine. He always woke when he needed milk and slept through from about 7 weeks. Never had a dry nappy though.

I might have tried it if he was consistently dry overnight and wasn't gaining weight well.

Starsnspikes · 14/10/2022 22:57

The dry nappy thing happened frequently when my daughter was a similar age up to around 12 weeks, on nights when she slept through (happened a lot at that stage, sadly not anymore!). She'd barely wee all night but would fill her nappy quickly within an hour or two of waking up. Since the mother of all sleep regressions she fills her nappy within a few hours again and needs changing every night, which I put down to the fact that she's awake a lot. So I wouldn't worry about it if you're getting plenty of wet nappies through the day and baby is gaining weight. I certainly wouldn't be waking him to feed if he's sleeping well!
