Wrap Carrier

Hi all

I am looking to purchase a wrap carrier for my newborn. There are no sling libraries near me so am after any reviews, particularly of the Freerider or the Ergobaby Aura.

I already have a more structured carrier so am good for recommendations for those.

Thanks!

If it were me I'd look for a library that would loan online. I never got on with a woven wrap. There's a good baby wearing group on Facebook that would be able to help. Baby wearing Uk.

I'm not sure the name of the brand of mine but I got mine from Amazon for about £20.

Just look for one with good reviews.

I use the sling indoors and I have the Baby bjorn mini carrier for going out.

A basic stretchy wrap is fine for the early days. Join a Facebook group and you will get one really cheap. The Scottish baby boxes give them free so some people pass them on for postage.

For a stretchy, I've read that two way stretch is easier to use than one way (not sure why though!). I don't know much about the different brands, but I bought a second hand stretchy wrap called a sleepy wrap - I think it's the old version of Boba wrap. I loved it - it's a thicker fabric, very comfy and used it for about 5 months. You can get them very cheap on vinted and so just as cheap as hiring one, although sling library is a good idea for showing you how to use it properly. The Facebook group mentioned above can be useful too.

The Aura is more like a 1.5 way stretchy, so lovely and supportive but is a bit trickier to learn to get nice and snug than a 2 way stretchy.

If you join the babywearing U.K. Facebook group there's loads of information and support on there, also postal hires for slings if you want to try before you buy. Also a lot of secondhand ones available to buy too.

I’d recommend the Hana wrap - it’s a 2 way stretch and I’m still using it with my 4 month old. Got it recommended/fitted at our sling library, and it’s so easy to put on as it just stretches to your baby’s size. Think they’re around £30-40.

I had a boba wrap until she was about 6 months old, then went for the sturdier ergo baby. I miss using it now (she's 2 and a half 🤣)

Twizbe · 14/10/2022 11:00

I had a free rider and I LOVED it.

Best thing ever for my daughter and I wish I'd had it for my eldest. It was great to use while doing the supermarket shop and anytime I needed DD on me while sorting out DS or doing anything really.

I could eat with her in it, I could pee with her in it.

She was a winter baby and I loved that I could wrap it round me and wear my coat over the top and drive in it (baby not in it obviously) and then put her in without having to take my coat off first. Very useful in freezing car parks

Thank you! I have looked at the Boba too.

I just can't work out why some (e.g. freerider) are just quite a bit more pricey

Because you're paying for branding and marketing and pretty designs.

The best stretchy wrap I had for the early days was a really cheap one from Aldi. We also had the Aura but like I said it was a bit trickier to the fit right at first when I was a beginner.

ablisha · 15/10/2022 22:44

@addler I thought that well could be the case but not having had one before, I thought I'd ask! I'll probably just choose a cheap one then

Some of the cheap ones on Amazon will be one way stretchy, as is the freerider. Nothing wrong with that, but 2 way is easier to get the hang of. I would highly recommend lifft stretchy wraps, it's what we stock most of in our sling library as they are reasonably priced, super supportive and don't lose their stretch.
The ergobaby aura is kind of a 1.5 way stretchy, thin as well. I do like it though.
Boba are lovely, quite thick. Hana are also really lovely 2 way stretchy wraps.

I had the ergobaby aura and i could never get on with it (unlike my ergobaby omni 360, which i LOVE). I found it a pain to tie and never felt confident i had it secure enough.

For next baby, I'm going to get one of those ones that goes over your head like a tshirt (similar to the close caboo but hopefully i can find a cheaper one 🤣)

TerfranosaurusVagina · 15/10/2022 23:00

I had the Ergobaby Aura. I enjoyed it but did have to readjust it everytime I took DS in and out. Once in he was fine though.

Ahh thank you! I am thinking of buying the Boba as my friend had it. Is it 2 way?
