14 Month old spitting

Hey guys,

I need some advice or just to see if anyone has had similar!

Basically my 14mo keeps spitting, he does it randomly throughout the day and it's more just him pushing the saliva out of his mouth than forceful spitting if that makes sense.

I've tried ignoring it, I've tried saying "we don't spit" but then he does it even more when I point it out. I've tried offering him a drink when it happens, I cant seem to get him to stop. I also have no idea why he's doing it. Has anyone else gone through this?

I should add he still has no teeth, he's had teething symptoms on and off ever since he was about 4 months but no actual teeth yet (can see his front bottoms under the gum but have been able to since about 12 months and still nothing) so I dont know if he's teething maybe?

Any advice?

At 14 months it's probably either teething or him just experimenting with stuff he can do with his mouth, tongue, etc. Or if he knows that it gets a reaction from you maybe he's just that. If it doesn't bother him (or you don't think it's anything medical) the best might be to just ignore it. Maybe tie a big around his neck or apply some cream to his chin so he doesn't get sore.

Seconded that it's probably just a noise he's discovered or something he figured out how to do something. Learning new things is exciting!

Try not to react to it: if there's no reaction that's boring, and the novelty will wear off eventually

Thank you guys! I'll get DP on board with ignoring it again and hopefully that'll help! It's not a massive deal because it's only himself he's getting wet but I just didn't want to do nothing and have him start doing it more, but I imagine you're right it's probably because he's just experimenting and having fun with how it feels rather than it being a bad habit or anything!
