Ways to help 5mo learn to roll back?

Probably a silly question but I’m going to ask it anyway…

5mo DD learned to roll back to belly about 6 weeks ago. Took her a couple of days to master it. She’s mostly been very happy spending lots of time on her tummy ever since - and has disrupted many a baby massage class by refusing to lie bloody still! She basically won’t ever lie on her back anymore. As soon as I pop her down she flips over.

The last few days however she’s clearly really f*cking annoyed that should can’t get back from her tummy to her back. She’s done it 3 times, twice in a row which made me think she’d got it, but not again since. So I reckon it was an accident. Ending up with lots and lots of frustrated screaming. I end up popping her in her bouncer to calm her down/distract her, but feel bad that I’m stopping her having floor time (but I guess if she’s stopped enjoying it it’s pointless to keep it up?)

Anyway - is there anything I could try to help her master this? I roll her over to show her how, have tried gently toppling her, waving toys just out of reach etc. Or does she just need to get there on her own - with screaming 😵‍💫

Leave her to get there on her own.

She will get there.

You cannot walk and talk for them.

Thanks! Not sure I implied I wanted to ‘walk and talk for her’ though…!

Yeah she just needs to practice, which means tummy time. Do many short sessions if she is getting really upset. You can also let her hold your finger for support while she figures it out. Usually they do front to back before back to front so maybe she just needs to figure out the motions and she'll be off to the races...

Leave her to do it under her own steam. At least she stays put where you left her. Next she'll be crawling and pulling stuff down from every surface....do you actively want that sooner?

Check out milestones.and.motherhood on Instagram. She is a paediatric physical therapist and she has amazing content to show you how to help babies along with meeting their milestones

Thank you! Will take a look

@Ariela Yep, a good point! I don’t want to rush her, and wouldn’t care in the slightest if she wasn’t bothered. She just seems very keen to get moving!
