Fluffles leaking - am I doing something wrong?

We were recommended tots bots fluffles on account of having no tumble drier, also several friends use them and say fantastic things about them. All the reviews I have read say they are "bomb proof", but we're having issues here. DS is 7 weeks, 10lb 7oz (25th centile) and breastfed. He's just started having one huge poo a day and several little smatterings (TMI?). We bought 5 fluffles (size 1 nippa) to try them out, but they really leak out of the leg holes (wee as well as poo). we can't seem to get the wrap to fit snugly to his legs, so I'm thinking that's the issue. I really want to love them - they look really cute, and I'm desperate to get away from disposables - but so far we've tried them for 2 days and had 3 major leaks.

Should we try a different sort of nappy, or a different sort of wrap? am I doing something wrong? All advice gratefully recieved.

What wrap are you using?

Sanguine · 26/01/2008 16:01

the tots wrap, size 1 that came with the nappies.

I've not seen fluffles but if you have an exploding poo breast fed baby you may be better off with easy peasy nappies - bumbles I think. Is it a velcro or popper wrap and doe your ds have exceptionally slim legs in which case you may need a newborn wrap. I have huge babies (er 10lb 6oz so the same weight as you LO now) but they all had skinny thighs at first so still needed newborn wraps for a few weeks.

also have you prewashed them to improve the absorbancy as it does make a difference.

FlameNFurter · 26/01/2008 16:30

Fluffles won't make a difference with absorbency.

Are they nippa or popper fastening? They may just need doing up a bit more snug.

Hi,
I used fluffles with my dd from 5 weeks & only had leaks when I used the Tots Bots wrap. When I switched to Motherease Airflows, I never had a leak. That might help?

Sanguine · 26/01/2008 16:46

Thanks peeps. Nippa nappy and velcro wrap. DS's legs are quite slim, I now note that tots bots do a "size 0" wrap that's good for up to 12 lb. Maybe we ought to try that one? We've done nappy and wrap up as snugly as we can without the wrap cutting into him around the waist.

One of the nappies has also broken in the wash (one of the rivets holding the booster on has come off). We aren't having a good nappy day!

xpost with hippopowell - thanks for tip! Will try a motherease wrap.

yes motherease or popolini popper wraps are the most reliable going.

FlameNFurter · 26/01/2008 17:07

They had a spate of bad poppers iirc - tell the people you bought it from and they will exchange it for you

I agree that the tots wrap could well be the problem. Motherease are much more reliable.

Make sure you are pulling the front up well enough to give a really snug fit around the legs before nippaing.

curlywurlycremeegg · 26/01/2008 19:59

I would ditch the Tots wrap as they are not the best and go for a motherease airflow so you can really adjust the waist and legs well with the poppers

bestignored · 26/01/2008 20:20

I agree with the rest of the crowd. I nearly gave up on cloth because I was using Tots Wraps - constant leaks . I moved over to Motherease airflow wraps and problem solved.

If I were you I'd get at least one airflow wrap even if you don't like the idea of a popper wrap - you may be suprised how good a fit they give. I think they are more adaptable in fit than the rikki (velcro fit)

Do your tots wraps have leg gussets btw? They changed the design a while ago now but they still sell the older style ungussetted wraps which were really unreliable IME!

BabyBuftersNappies · 27/01/2008 16:06

I am in agreement with the rest. Get some motherease wraps. Smalls go quite cheap second hand

Sanguine · 27/01/2008 21:03

I have today ordered some motherease airflow wraps! Thanks for your help everyone. I'm feeling very hopeful they'll solve our problem. I got an e-mail from the website saying they'll be dispatched tomorrow, so we should be in business soon.
