Hey, just looking for some advice/experience on this.

My 5mo son has had a few upsets with his tummy lately and after a few trips to different doctors, it has been narrowed down that he could have a CMPA so we've been given the aptamil pepti1 and the doctors going to advise us if we need to attend a dietician. I called my HV to update her on this and she said he now needs to do the milk challenge as he's been on the pepti for 2 weeks....she said its to rule out him definitely having CMPA, he's been so happy and content on this pepti now he's needing to go back to the normal, im just worried incase it definitely is CMPA and he'll be in pain while we're doing this milk challenge ☹️

Ignore your HV. If the GP is happy to continue prescribe the milk without you challenging you can do that.

It is a good idea to do a milk challenge, but two weeks isn't long enough. I'd wait at least another two, maybe even longer, and then it will be really clear.

With my LO I was breastfeeding, so I cut out dairy, and then after six weeks when there were still symptoms I also cut out soya. Another six weeks after that once all symptoms were gone, I did a milk challenge - immediate symptoms back. I then waited again, and did a soya challenge - immediate symptoms back. It really helps to clearly know, and then you know what path to follow when it comes to reintroduction and milk ladder etc

I'm 2 years down the line now and my LO is up to cooked cheese in the milk ladder, and fully up the soya ladder, so happy to chat if you want advice

Btw I know how hard it is to do the challenge, and you know it is probably going to cause them pain. It's horrible horrible horrible. But for me it really helped as when I had an appt with an allergy specialist and talked through everything I'd done, they were totally happy that it was clear cut and so could advise me accordingly

Hey OP

I'm sorry to hear about your son but glad he's doing better. My son has been given the same milk. How did your LO take it? Any advice as the pervious milk I was prescribed my LO would not drink at all. Starting the aptamil pepti on Friday and I'm apprehensive

Agreed.

DD had CMPA and I simply kept her on aptamil pepti until she was 12 months.

My dietician also advised me not to start a milk ladder until she was 1. She's now 19 months and her intolerance has gone completely.

Do what feels right for you.

When DS had dairy allergy we were told not to introduce dairy ourselves and we had to wait until he was nearly two and then went to the allergy clinic at the hospital and they introduced dairy gradually starting with skin prick test. Mind this was quite a few years ago so advice might have changed.

That’s still the advice for IGE allergies but it sounds like OP’s baby has a none IGE allergy.
