Advice please feeding 7 day old formula

My baby is 7 days old and I think maybe not getting on with aptamil. Either that or the MAM bottles ? Not sure so would love some advice..
I'm mix feeding, mainly formula but like to give her a bottle of breast milk a day.

The issue is she's so windy! And it seems worse at night I think, she just won't lay flat at night. Gets really upset, grunty, you can tell she's really uncomfortable. Now this is why it's confusing because sometimes she'll go down flat in her crib in the day absolutely fine and others she won't. The only place she seems genuinely comfortable is her bouncer, but I know they can't stay in them long. We're not getting much sleep due to staying awake with her all night obviously because she can't settle. She's happy in our arms.

She always has hiccups, when we're feeding her it's like someone's turned a tap on on her bowels. He has plenty of wet and dirty nappies, her poo is that pasty yellow kind.

Could anyone recommend a difffent formula ? And bottles ?

Sounds massively like reflux.

Our favourite formula is Kendamil - it smells and tastes nicer than others. Although nutritionally, they are all much of a muchness.

In terms of reflux, that’s also a possibility and usually then the GP will prescribe Gaviscon to put in your baby’s milk feed. Or there’s the possibility that cow’s milk doesn’t agree with her. So several things could be going on really.

Is kendamil widely available ?

Anyone recommend any bottles too?

Also, is it okay to incline the snuzpod? I've read online you shouldn't incline but it would only be a small amount just to see if it helps.
She is actually having a sleep lay down flat atm but she had a real good winding before she went down

Oh she coughs when feeding too, is this a sign of reflux ?

You can get Kendamil in Tesco, Waitrose at least I believe. I would suggest making an appointment with the GP re: the reflux.

My FF kids also struggled a bit with wind and colic. We started with Aptimil and MAM bottles and quickly changed. What worked for us:

  • Dr Browns bottles - bit of a faff to wash but worked so much better
  • HIPP Organic formular (can get anywhere)
  • In the early day, Infacol before each feed (again, can get Tesco, boots etc.)

Mostly its just their age. It resolves itself mostly by 12 weeks.

Coffeeandcrocs · 06/10/2022 16:07

Sounds like silent reflux

Do not use infecol with sny kind of reflux as it is acidic and will aggrevate reflux ( it states this on the infacol website )

Hi just updating - I swapped to tommee tippee anti colic bottles and kendamil formula and it does seem to have reduced the wind some what, but she definitely has reflux.

The gp today prescribed infant gaviscon and said to just use 1 sachet, has anyone else's given a newborn gaviscon ? She's 13 days old, It says in the leaflet for babies 1 and over so I'm worrying over giving it her but I also don't want her to be in pain, she's very unsettled most of the time.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear that your poor baby is in pain. If the GP has prescribed this then I would absolutely go ahead and give it to her. My friend was given the same thing when her baby had reflux.

Fleur405 · 12/10/2022 21:47

Yes I’ve given gaviscon to a baby and know a fair few who have been prescribed it for reflux. As long as you’re doing it on medical advice it’s absolutely fine.
