dd will only poo in her pants!

dd has been potty trained for 6 months, but will only poo in her pants, not on potty or toilet. Dry at night, just can't get her to go when she needs a poo, instead she hides and does it in her pants! No regular time of day, so difficult to catch her in time. Getting very embarrassing at other people's houses and nursery. Any advice ?

You are not alone! My ds went through this stage. In the end he did it in the right place when he was ready at age 4. Advice: always have some clean clothes with you and a plastic bag. Watch her like a hawk - you'll soon recognise that look in her eye while she's hiding behind the sofa!

Happy days.

My DS also did the same. We resorted to full-on bribery. Bought 6 super-hero toys he really wanted (on special 3 for £10, not the cheapest, but a decent bribe). Only took 2 weeks to get him out of the habit. However you need to feel she fully understands and is mature to change her behaviour. Also don't be embarrassed about it, after talking to others have found it is quite common.

My ds did exactly the same, he was a late starter being potty trained, 3 and a half (summer 2007), didn't have a problem with wees, but would only pooh in his pants. I didn't make too much of a fuss of him, and nursery told me not too worry too much (luckily his pooh time in pm and not am whilst at nursery). During the Christmas holidays we had some spare quite time and I just resorted to potty training him again, but specifically on poohs and this worked well for me. He did have an accident last night (was very tired) and poohed in his pants. You will get there eventually, I have still to try night time training, which you have done well on! Good luck.

Buy a box of Kandoo wipes.

Leave them on the cistern

When she wants to know what its all about explain she can use them herself after she does a poo on toilet.

That is how we solved the problem in our house.

Then after a couple of packs you 'forget' to buy them next time and they disappear from your lives forever

I started potty training last August - thinking I could do it in five weeks before dd started nursery ( I know, what WAS I thinking??). Wees didn't take too long to sort out, but it's only in the last week that she's done poos in the toilet.

So that's been nearly six months of cleaning the poos out of her pants, every single day. In the end, we stopped all biscuits and sweets and told her she wouldn't get any until she went on the toilet. It took three weeks, but finally worked. I've met so many people who've gone through the same thing so please don't worry about it.

By the way, she was 2.5 when we started - 3 now.

ditto slightlymadshrek
Get Kandoo wipes
Display on top of cistern / beside loo
Emphasise that only big girls and boys who do poos on the toilet may use them

Use your mum-alert to the red nose / look in the eye that says there is a girl with a poo on her mind and try to get a chance odd one in the loo,(it may be all it takes) then making great fuss with nice-smelling kandoo wipes

it worked in our house.
All three times...lol

DD was the same and she absolutely loves barbie and princesses so we let her pick aq 7pck of new knickers. If she pood in her knickers we binned them with poo and all and she had to wear plain ones for the rest of the day. She still got 6 now
