Nappy leaks - advice

Awake with a poorly baby and mulling over the amount of ruined clothes we've had recently to the dreaded mustard poo. We use Tesco nappy's - is this the reason because they are cheap or is there a nappy doing up trick that I'm missing?

What's everyone favourite nappy brand? Baby is always changed as soon as they do a poo m which is often within the next 5 minutes so not a case of leaving them too long

Poo leaking on clothes doesn't ruin them, it washes out (caveats that with my son has unusually stainy poo and it still comes out eventually). We use cloth nappies, poo leaks are so very rare that I can remember most of them.

Are you making sure the little wings around the legs are out the whole way round? Could the nappies now be the wrong size? As the other poster said, baby poop doesn’t ruin clothes. Just wash out the poop and then put in the sink in soak before using the washing machine.

We use Asda little Angels for our youngest, the other brands I've tried seem to be slightly too narrow and end up leaking.

I’ve never had ruined clothes due to poo and my daughter leaks at least once a day. We haven’t found any nappy that can contain her, not even the super-duper Pampers poonami ones. Soak in Napisan and then wash as normal.

We’ve tried every nappy brand I can find. Pampers, Little Rascals, Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Boots, Hipp. Tesco were probably the poorest, Aldi were the best and Little Rascals were my favourite but not enough to justify spending more on them.

If you fold down a flap at the back that can help contain the worst of it. Unfortunately for us if it’s contained at the back it just shoots out the legs. I’ve just bought some reusable nappies because I’m really getting fed up of the constant breaches so hope that will help us.

I really struggle to get the poo stains out but then again we are washing on 30 every time now so that probably doesn't help. Il give everything a good soak in hot water this week and see how it we go

Btw I should have said that I soak using some gentle liquid detergent then wash in the baby setting (not sure on temp).

We leak about once a day as well on asda little Angels. Fairy liquid gets baby poo out. Apply a dribble to pop stain, scrub and rinse in the sink till stain out then bung in the wash as normal.

DysmalRadius · 05/10/2022 02:41

Hang the stained clothes on the line if you can - even a bit of winter sun will get stains out after a few hours.

MassiveSalad22 · 05/10/2022 03:03

… hot won’t help. Hot sets stains. Cold rinse/soak then wash as usual. Set it out in the sun (even on grey day) if stain is very persistent, that will sort it usually. Honestly cloth nappies are the best for containment and stains are rare - the cold rinse is key.

Tesco nappies are rubbish. If you're looking for value I'd recommend Aldi.
But pampers truly are the best.

You need to soak the clothes in napisan.

arewe · 05/10/2022 09:18

Every time we've had accident, it was a sign that we needed to go up the size in nappies. Buy one size up.
And for people who said you can wash poo out of clothes- no, IMO, you can't.

Moancup · 05/10/2022 09:18

Another vote for napisan. They come out the soak still yellow but something magical happens in the wash.

We’ve found Boots best but I think it must be highly dependent on the baby’s size and shape.

MrsHadley · 05/10/2022 09:21

I love the rascal and friends nappies. DD has never leaked in them.

Considering my daughter has defiled every piece of clothing she owns at least once and doesn’t have stains on any then I’d say that you absolutely can.

Soak overnight in Napisan and then into the wash and they’ll be as good as new.

Hi OP, I found you need to try other brands if you get leaks like that. Some are unavoidable, but if it's happening every time, the fit isn't right for you. We always used pampers baby dry as they fit well on our chubby, big babies. Once they started to leak, it usually meant we needed to move up a size. I hope that helps a little!! 😁

Make sure frills are out all the way round the leg

Make sure the nappy is high enough, so that the bottom bit is snug against the bum, if you dont pull high enough there is a gap.

Make sure straps round aist are done tightly so there is no gap at back.

And once you know they have done a poo, and you are taking them to change them, avoid pressing on the nappy otherwise you can squeeze it out.

And also, even if the clothes still have stains, they are clean and can be used again. Babies grow out of clothes so quickly.
