He points to things and says 'blue' 'yellow' 'pink' 'purple' etc and, is always correct.
Husband thinks it might be sign of intelligence but I suspect its just normal for kids his age.
He's our first child so we're not sure what vocabulary they're supposed to have by know, or indeed what they're supposed to know.
Can anyone advise?

My twin toddlers knew the main colours at 18 months.

I think kids know what you teach them. Eg I always referred to the colours of things. They can also count to 20, since we count all the time (Eg going up stairs). I have not taught them shapes, so they know circle and triangle but not shapes like hexagon/pentagon etc.

It's so interesting hearing what other kids do - I've no one to compare to, so no idea if my twins do stuff early or late.

My DD hit those sort of milestones early, her IQ is above average, but normal smart. IQ testing was for Autism diagnosis. DS has language delays, but very high IQ, bordering on genius, again tested as part of Autism diagnosis. Other DS couldn't count to 10 till he was 5.5, now works 2 years ahead in maths. It really doesn't mean much at this age.

Mine did. But I talked to them all the time. "What a lovely green apple, red strawberry, blue crayon". They both spoke very early and with excellent diction but I'd never dream of saying ta for thank you and their father has to speak articulately for a living.

They read very early too. Both went to Oxbridge. One has ADD with autistic traits, one doesn't. One's alpha, one's beta. One's sporty, one isn't. Both musical. The non sporty one took it forward because they weren't always at sports practice. One was breast fed until 8 weeks, 9 until 9 months.

It's partly social with cultural capital and partly genetic.

Meh. My first born could cook a roast dinner and recite Shakespeare by that age.

😂

OP, definitely not normal. I'm always amazed at how smart mumsnets kids are. My dd was barely walking or talking at that age, but she could eat enough food for a grown man😂 She still graduated with honors, although she had to work hard for it.

If you ask Mumsnet these things, it's either completely pedestrian or a sure sign of autism 😂

I think it's quite advanced OP, certainly earlier than mine did it. How that translates long term who knows.
