Contact naps

4 month old has always contact napped. Wakes up if put down and takes ages to settle again so while I'm maternity I don't really mind sitting down with him, having a cuppa and watching wheel of fortune

Yet... I need to start to think about how I move away from it as I'm back at work in January and he will be going to a child minder. How/when did people go about easing little one away from this?

He sleeps well at night in his next to me (occasionally comes into the bed with me if he wakes and can't get back to sleep)

Naps have generally gone to shit as we are going through the 4 month regression and he has a bit of excema giving him trouble so right now isn't going to work but..

How...and when....? Any tips massively appreciated ❤️

My firstborn napped on me until he gave up naps at 2yo.
When he started nursery at 1yo I told them he can’t fall asleep on his own, and we don’t practice CIO. So they held him/lied down with him/shush & pat etc and found their own way to help him to sleep. Nurseries are quite good at this.

My 5-week old is currently napping on me. I think with this one at around 6mo I’ll move the naps to a floor bed and roll off once he is asleep (likely won’t work knowing my luck).

They are so precious when they nap though… especially when they leave a tiny ear imprint on you.

Would your childminder consider baby wearing for nap times ?

Mine contracted napped until about 5/6 months I think. Would wake up if I put him down. The pram was the only other alternative but it could take a very long time before he’d drop off.

Sleep training at 6 months (Ferber method) was a pure magic for us. Highly recommend reading the book. I downloaded the e-booked, stayed up all night reading it and it literally changed my life.

@7Worfs I know... totally cute when he is napping me - I sometimes think I get more out of it than him!
@christmasGift hmm.. I could certainly ask. He will be the youngest she has and the others she said shr has on those days are 3+ . She's very nice and has said nothing is a problem to her so could well be up for it.
@SalviaOfficinalis yeah I've heard good things about the feber method. Couldn't handle CIO but that's a lot softer. I'll order the book for sure

My DD contact napped til 6 months then we did sleep training. She would fall asleep on her own but didn't start taking longer naps (1 hr+) until we tried her in the zipadee zip transition swaddle at 7 months, having tried many other things.

We gave her a tiny bunny toy from JoJo Maman Bebe and she loved it, slept with it every day and night from 6 mos.

I will be sleep training DS around the same age as he's also a contact napper.... 3 months old now.

I used the e-book Precious Little Sleep, really helpful!

My boy contact napped the first 6 months of his life. He's now 15 months and gets plonked in a cot and off he goes to sleep😂 we done sleep stacking as i couldn't do cio. It took a while but he has no issues going to sleep. For what it worth he started nursery 2 months ago and he just sleeps there. No white noise dark room ect that we do at home. I was worried how they would get him to sleep as they don't have a dark room but they just put him down and he goes to sleep🙈

My now 6 month old would only ever contact nap up until about 5 months, now if I rock her in the pram she sleeps
