Abroad and need help identifying rash

Havanawinter · 04/10/2022 14:48

I would never normally post a pic like this of my child on the internet but I am abroad and really need help identifying this rash to get my son the right medication. Pharmacist doesn’t speak English so I need to know what to ask for. Can anyone please help?

He’s absolutely fine in himself but is itching. No temp, eating and drinking well etc. hard to tell from pics but he’s covered head to toe. I think chicken pox but he’s been vaccinated… TIA

Check it blanches under a glass,
looks like an allergy

Littlemissprosecco · 04/10/2022 14:52

Heat rash?

Havanawinter · 04/10/2022 14:54

It does blanch. We are giving piriton. Heat rash crossed my mind but it’s not even that hot and we have air con. He’s spending most of the time naked to get air to it. He hasn’t been in the pool or had sun cream on (the rash appeared on the plane and we’ve kept him playing inside)

The rash on his bum doesn't look like chicken pox , more an allergic reaction to something.

Havanawinter · 04/10/2022 14:56

We have been using local nappies so I will stop using those. But it doesn’t explain why he’s covered head to toe surely?

if it’s allergy, it’s not usual to have a whole body reaction

Havanawinter · 04/10/2022 15:02

@Littlemissprosecco oh really? That’s really good to know, thank you.

I'm not really able to help but use this website to chrck if it's similar to any on there.
Could it be the change in temperature - I always find the air on planes drys my skin out

Obviously you need to keep a really close eye on him, and try to work out what’s caused it. New food perhaps?

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 04/10/2022 15:06

Could it be HFM? I’m think this based on the areas affected.

Littlemissprosecco · 04/10/2022 15:06

Has he had his MMR vaccine?

Havanawinter · 04/10/2022 15:10

He’s fully vaccinated

Not measles then!

Orangello · 04/10/2022 15:16

HFM would be my guess as well. I know most photos will show larger spots but DD's looked exactly like that. Insanely itchy. www.parents.com/baby/health/other-issues/coxsackie-virus-facts/

keeprunningupthathill · 04/10/2022 15:19

I think it looks like hfm too

emeraldcity2000 · 04/10/2022 15:22

Fwiw my son has allergies and his rashes always look more blotchy and hive like than this - looks like hand food and mouth to me x

seasunshine22 · 04/10/2022 15:23

My daughter has this at the moment doctors are saying it’s a viral rash? Has he been poorly at all prior?

Backtoreality22 · 04/10/2022 15:26

Hand foot and mouth? The first symptom on my dc was spots on their bottom.

Pirrin · 04/10/2022 15:29

I agree hand foot and mouth looks v likely. It can appear on knees and buttocks too. I got it when my toddler did and was surprised with how incredibly sore it was everywhere the rash appeared.

Havanawinter · 04/10/2022 15:30

He hasn’t been unwell at all that I can tell. I did suspect HFM but from what I read they feel rotten with it and he doesn’t, unless he’s hiding it very well!
