newborn reusable nappies-how many do I need?

god you'd think I'd know this by now

ok, we have lots of motherease onesize and some terries but we always end up using disposables for the first 6 weeks because they are just HUGE.

I do already have wraps and liners. Am inclined towards tots bots.

Oh and I know the nappy lady suggests muslins but in 2 babyhoods, I haven't figures out how to use them with nappy nippas-its highly unlikely I will manage to this time.

15 - 20 I think. and 4-6 wraps.

I know people get by with less, but I didn't want to wash every day.

I'm going to go for Fluffles probably because the containment is fab, but I won't need to tumble them to keep them soft.

I do love the bamboo and cotton tots though - might add a few of them in there too.

I think muslins are only a solution if you have a load lying around - not sure I'd get them especially for nappies. I've yet to meet anyone who has been able to use them past 2 weeks

Answer to your question depends on how often you want to wash, how long the nappies will take to dry and if you are going to do 24 hour cloth duty!

I think the general rule of thumb is that you should exoect to change the nappies 6-7 times a day and then 2-3 times per night in the very early days.

Don't rule out other nappy brands though, I think there are some cheaper nappies out there that are just as good and possibly better than totsbots. I'm thinking Easy Peasy Bumbles, Little Lamb etc. Have you looked at the new Little Kiwi nappies? Are you planning to use your MEOS once they fit nicely?

thanks for info re other brands coby, will look, though I have a local nappy shop that I was planning on buying from.

Am probably going to do about half cloth half disposable, thinking on it.

I have about 2 weeks left, 3 optomistically. Possibly none...

I was going to just use disposables, but was in the nappy shop the other day, buying a sling, and realised that actually, cloth is much nicer

so really need the nappies asap, and thusly cannot faff with the post. That is my only reason for not doing 2ndhand.

so are you planning on using the MEOS later on when they fit?

Have you thought about getting some terry squares (nice and cheap, quick drying) for a young one you should be fine with mothercare ones which are really cheap. I'm using squares with my DC3 until he fits into bamboozles. Would have loved to have bought 20 tiny newborn nappies too but......

You have loads of time left to get 2nd hand. There will be a few people around who have tots bots or similar to sell since the nappy lady classifieds were closed.

I used the tiniest diddy diapers and bimbles and tots bots size 1 with both my boys. It doesn't take long for them to grow into the MEO's but you may then be disappointed by their absorbancy in comparison to the others.

My collection of nappies is fairly vast though - I think I own over 30 size one nappies purchased 2nd hand, but I only wash every 2/3 days.

washersaurus I always imagined you being constantly at the washing machine - jealous of your Bimbles (really wanted some for DC3 ).

I agree though, plenty of time for second hand - there are alternatives to the nappy lady now.

The machine isn't even in the house. We put it out in the old outside loo.

At the time I changed my name, my new washing machine was broken for about the 3rd time and I was carting buckets of stinky nappies to the launderette at the end of the road. I like it that you think I'm some kind of domestic goddess though

I only have about 6/7 bimbles that I bought 2nd hand for DS1. They are a bit grey and faded now DS2 has used them too, but I'm sure they'll do another baby yet.

aha! So you are also in a dusty house covered in cat hair - thought it was just me. My cat likes to sit on top of the laptop to keep warm (hence bad typos) - once she got too close to the fan and there was this strange burning smell........she was totally oblivious.

I shall continuw to assume you are a domestic goddess in other ways (it is all that drives me to do the housework these days - imagining all those other mums with perferctly behaved children and an immaculate house while I sit at the laptop on MN eating chokky )

I got 20 MASSIVE muslins (baby ewe) ones and I didn't need a nappi nippas. Just did the origami fold and wrapped a Rikki wrap around. You've already got the wraps, £30 for the muslins. Sorted

That'll be the ones Ds was 8lb3 and quite frankly I can't remember. Was at least 6 weeks. Actually probably nearer 8. Think by the first lot of injections, we had just swapped over to OneLife and size2 bamboozles folded down (BIG boy) and just had the muslins as an emergency, but they were becoming less reliable, but still too big to use a nappi nippa.

Muslins worth the money, the xs wraps were not. Muslins now being used as sick mops, bibs, dolly blankets for dd...erm that list isn't long enough but they are great...you know that.

Have decided pretty much on tots bots, I think. I really don't think I do have time to get them second hand. I am about a week off my due date, and my babies are normally punctual. Unlike the post...

Filly know this is not the wanted board and dont want to "peddle my wares", but I read your OP I do have some spare size 1 aplix Tots which you can have cheaply, if you are interested. I agree these are much easier than muslins on a newborn.
