Please help me with weaning fear!

We are doing puree and spoon feeding at the moment. Baby is 6.5mo.

I know we should start introducing different textures but I can not get over my fear of him choking.

I have the solid starts app but some of the suggestions look really scary to me.

Can anyone suggest something really safe and easy for me to start with and hopefully build from there?

I feel like a total wally. Thank you 🙏

Have you taken a baby first aid course? That may help you feel a bit more in control should anything happen

I agree, do a first aid course or look up some videos on line of what to do if a baby is choking, St. John ambulance have some good ones. Also, gagging is a completely normal part of learning to deal with food in your mouth and swallowing, it can look very scary but it's not the same as choking - if they are coughing and making a noise they are dealing with it, if they cannot make any noise and are going blue then that is choking and needs an ambulance and first aid.

I'm not sure they exist, but can you find a video to show the difference between gagging and choking?
Gagging can be quite common in the early days, but they quickly sort themselves out.
Choking is quite a lot more serious, but rare.

I took a baby first aid course and it helped with my fear! Baby is now almost 11 months and happily eats chunky things. He does gag on things occasionally but he's never choked. I ended up doing purees with some solids. He loves avocado for example which can be mashed with some small lumps, banana or slices of peach with the skin cut off, chunks of roasted veg etc. Anything that can be held but also squishes down well. I add shredded chicken or other meat too and poached fish which flakes up.

Thanks for these replies for some reason I never saw the notifications! A first aid course actually gave me the fear of choking lol - I hadn't thought about it much before!

Anyway, we are very much through that patch now I just had to grit my teeth! And it helped that he wasn't much interested in being spoon fed from around 7mo.
