Mid morning school snack for DS who doesn't eat fruit

DS7 doesn't like whole fruit as he doesn't like the skin. He's very active and needs a good snack at morning break time at school. He's allowed to take in a snack from home but I'm stumped for ideas. He'll drink smoothies but doesn't like cereal bars. The school policy is fruit but I've done crackers and cereal biscuits before.

My DD takes a savoury snack, alternating between stuff like mini satay sticks, mini sausages, fridge raiders, mini scotch eggs. Not exactly a health food I know but it keeps her going.

Carrot sticks
Bread sticks
Cheese slices
Peppers
Smoothie?
Milk?

Can't he have a banana? Easy to peel and therefore no skin?

erinaceus · 03/10/2022 09:27

Does he like grapes?
Or dried fruit, or trail mix.

Chopped fruit in Tupperware?

This is what I have always done. Strawberries, mango, grapes, melon, kiwi - whatever is in the fridge.

GetOffTheRoof · 03/10/2022 09:30

So he'll eat peeled fruit? Chop up kiwi, melon, mango, papaya, apple, banana, oranges etc. Mini fruit salad.

Also up the protein content of his breakfast a bit , protein takes longer to digest. Something like a bit of cheese,or half a hard boiled egg, a slice of cold chicken, a slice of ham, some baked beans.

Malt loaf?

our school doesn’t allow chocolate/biscuits for snack too so has to be something healthy - malt loaf is about as far as we can rock the boat!

bread sticks and a dip maybe - hummus? Our kids like creamy garlic dips!

Great ideas. Thanks all.

He used to eat bananas but won't now. He won't eat grapes or chopped/dried fruit. The only solid fruit he'll eat is a peeled whole apple but that doesn't keep well in a box. He loves malt loaf, smoothies, carrot sticks and milk so will have to rotate! He knows how fruit keeps you healthy etc. His brother couldn't be more different. He'll eat any type of fruit over anything else.

He does love savoury snacks so will do more of those.
