Kids who don’t knock

Does anyone else have an issue with kids friends who just waltz into the house without knocking and being greeted properly? My eldest DS has a couple of mates who just walk in and go upstairs to his bedroom. When I asked him about this he said it’s ok cos they had text and he knew they were coming🙄Is it me??? I started locking the door so they couldn’t get in, but he called me petty and we had a MASSIVE row

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My doors always locked. Can never be to careful these days. Tell your son to answer the door to his friends simple.

Your son shouldn't be speaking to you like that. Keep locking your door.

Your problem is your son, not the people he has given permission to just walk in to.

Our front door is always locked unless we're using it. So this never happens!

How old is your son? Would you let them in if they knocked? I really don't think this is an issue at all. When I was growing up, my parents had an open door policy for our friends, although we usually would tell them if someone was coming round.

notacooldad · 02/10/2022 15:34

Ds2 used to do same as your son.
I never had an issue with it tbh because he would shout that Will or whoever's was coming round 'in a bit'. The child ( and later on young person) would always shout 'hi' to us to let us know they were there or come into the sitting room or kitchen for a few mins to chat.

We have these amazing new fangled devices called locks, you should try them.

Who? The OP? That’s what caused the row!

I really like that they feel comfortable enough to just walk in. If you do t like it, lock the door. X

Explain to your son that you wouldn't want his friends to catch you naked after a shower (or such like). That should put a stop to him letting them walk straight in!

This is a totally different scenario. I'm with you, OP; I wouldn't like it either. Very impolite.

Your son needs to get off his backside and go down and let them in.
