Help!! New mum here! Recently gave birth to twins and have been trying to breast feed but finding it hard to feed both so trying to do both formula and breast, but im finding it hard to keep sterilising all the bottles for the formula feeds, is there anyway I can do a batch of bottles and keep them somewhere safe? The steriliser I have can only hold about 4-6 bottles plus a few teats. Any advice is welcome please!

Once they are sterilised, put them back together and the lids on, and they are good for 48 hours

Which brand of bottles are you using?
the Mam ones are designed to ‘self sterilise’ in the microwave so are great

Nuk ones are the worst to combine with breastfeeding, apparently

Maybe just buy another steriliser so you have 2 (takes up lots of room tho I know), as I’m pretty sure that’s the only place you can store them then keeps them sterilised.

I'm a twin mum

I used the mam ones you sterilise in the microwave and so long as you then don't touch them too much they should last 24 hours

Where did you hear that about nuk? I combi fed for 9months using nuk and breastfeeding. I thought they were better for bf?

Just get a big Tupperware and use sterilising tablets. Takes 15 mins to sterilise a bottle and you change the solution every 24 hours. Then the bottles are always ready to go.

Bottles only stay sterile while they are inside the steriliser, closed. Once the steriliser is opened, they are no longer sterile but they will stay sterilised provided you don't touch them inside.

Wash your hands, open the steriliser and press the lids over the teats without touching them, then screw them on the bottles.

I'd say they remaine sterilised for as long as you don't touch them, but because they are newborn and twins, I'd err on the side of caution and use them within 24h.

We used to sterilize the bottles and put the hot water in them and then into the fridge -

I made DH promise he wouldn’t leave in the morning without having done a set of bottles.

What also helped was colour coded lids so we knew who’s been fed and when - especially overnight when you are half asleep.

I'd get a big sterilising bucket as such and use Milton cold water sterilising.
I think you can buy boots or Milton own brand sterilisation box/bucket thingy

Sterilise then assemble the bottles and they are ok for 24 hours.

It took ages for me to settle on a system that worked for me. What I do is wash and sterilize the bottles etc I need for the day and keep them on a clean tea towel or in a zip bag. I boil water the night before and heat as in the kettle needed to temp during the next day to mix formula.
i use an electric kettle with temp settings so it's easy. Boiled water will keep 24hrs as does formula if you mix in advance and keep in fridge.
I used to make next day's formula and keep in fridge in bottles and then heat bottles, but I found the other way is more efficient because I would invariably overheat bottles.
If you can pump perhaps pumping while they sleep throughout the day/night would be helpful as I'm sure it's challenging bf-ing x2.
I hope this helps. 😊
