17 month sleep regression???

My 17 month old toddler won’t sleep through the night anymore. Tonight is particularly bad as he wouldn’t settle back in the cot after 4am and he’s now in a semi awake phase on my lap constantly asking for “boob”. Thought it was teething and he’s had calprofen but nothing happened.

He wakes every night at around midnight due to soaking through his nappy and wetting his nightclothes. I think he would sleep better if there was some kind of product on the market which prevented this (I’ve tried all the different nappy brands).

I’m trying to wean him but at night he is only settling with breast. I don’t know if there is some trick I’m missing?

It's hard to advise really as I don't know what your stance on sleep "training" is, but we went through a regression at that age and used some gentle sleep training methods. The main thing was giving our DD time to settle herself before we went in, so not going straight ti her room but leaving her 10 mins first. It's hard if you're used to going in as soon as he cries out, but it did work for us.

Looks like the first wake is your first problem. Assuming you give him a dry nappy right before going to bed, does he drink a lot in the evening? Maybe reduce some fluids before bed; changing in the middle of the night is probably harming the "rhythm".

Apart from that, I would advise looking up sleep training for night weans. Mine was younger when I did it, so I'm not sure about a toddler but it's clear from your post that there is a settling issue that needs to be addressed.

If it's any consolation, regressions at this age are usually temporary!
