Where to change nappies as they get older?

DD is 2 and still in nappies, we still use a changing table for the majority of the changes but I feel she's getting a bit old for it now, where do people change bums when they get older?

In the bath or next to the bath standing. Can also use shower for a quick rinse if it's messy.

If it's a stinker I put the mat on the floor. That way if I need to quickly run to the bathroom it's safe to leave him. For quick changes the mat is fine as long as he still fits in it

On the floor mostly. Use a changing table if we're out and if she's still in the weight limit.

We used the changing table, but ours was unusually large (and rigid). Our bathroom is very tight, so the chances of me changing a (wriggling) toddler without bashing my head on the toilet or sink were low. If we had a larger bathroom, we'd have used that.

Once they were in pants just changed standing up.

Change mat on sofa floor or the bed xx

cleanbreak2022 · 01/10/2022 14:19

My two year old hates being changed. She literally has to be laid face down on my lap, and changed. That way I can use one harm to hold her and two hands to change/wipe

anniewaitsevenlonger · 01/10/2022 15:47

SEN mum so child far too old for a table for years. Old towel on bathroom floor, or standing if not dirty. Bathroom is best as the older they get the worse it smells. You don't want to be in the bedroom.

Singleandproud · 01/10/2022 15:52

I never had a changing table so always just used a padded changing mat on the bed / floor / sofa. I'm sure around 2 DD refused to lay down so we moved to pull ups and did most of her changes standing up.

Mat on the bathroom floor.
I've never used a changing table for any of mine - makes me too anxious they would fall off. Plus, just convenient to change them in the bathroom where you can flush away poo; you can wash your hands ; there is a fan for smell distribution; wipeable floor for anything that escapes or sprays everywhere; et.

AegonT · 01/10/2022 21:56

We've always used a mat on the bathroom floor from birth to toddler. The changing tables in the baby changing room when out. Mine have been small toddlers so the 15kg weight limit hasn't been an issue.

BarnacleNora · 01/10/2022 23:02

Travel mat on bedroom floor. Would much prefer to use bathroom but it's small and awkwardly shaped. I have to fold away the bath mat to open the door to give some idea. Plus the toilet is in a separate room by itself (god I hate the whole bathroom/toilet situation in this house!)

We're down to just overnight nappies now but sometimes he still soils so I have to just open the window and air the room as best I can. Back when he was in nappies full time it was much harder-the boot of my car got a lot of use because public toilets just aren't set up for older children or those with SEN unless they're a brilliant establishment who've got a Changing Places toilet and deserve everyone's custom!

AmySma1i · 02/10/2022 21:27

We use a mat on the bedroom floor with our 3yo DD she was harder to change in pull ups so still change her lying down. Out and about is a little harder though

NeverTalksToStrangers · 02/10/2022 21:31

My friends used to be in awe that I changed nappies with them lying across my knees. It was a necessity though... rascals who wouldn't lie still. It was the only way to clamp them in place.

JenniferBarkley · 02/10/2022 21:37

We used a changing table all along, it was never a problem.

Never had a changing table so tended to use a mat on the living room floor

ohyeahiwaittablestoo · 05/10/2022 11:32

The floor, can't fall off that!

keiley7899 · 18/10/2022 12:41

I change my daughter on the floor or the sofa and if were out and about i bring a travel changing mat so can change her on the train, in the booth at a cafe if its just wet e.t.c.
