Help! Still using tommee tippee bottles

My twin boys are still using tommee tippee bottles for their milk at night. Its a comfort thing for them I am assuming.

I have tried every type of cup/beaker going and they just refuse.

Anyone came across something similar to the tommee tippee bottles?

Why is this a problem? How old are they? If they find it soothing just at night I wouldn't worry too much.

Confusion101 · 30/09/2022 23:35

Why don't you want them using them?
Sorry I don't know of a good replacement

They have just turned 3 years old. I thought the bottles should be away by now?

I think they like the soft teat?!

Its causing me so much stress.

If they brush teeth afterwards, I wouldn’t stress too much about it.

Thank you for the comments. I always feel gulity about it. I tried new cups last night and again tonight but they were so unhappy.

I had a bottle until I was at school in reception! I always had mine downstairs then went up and brushed me teeth afterwards. If my daughter had taken a bottle I'd have let her have it for as long as she wanted it!

I totally get your guilt because my DC used them until 2 and because you’re “supposed” to stop much earlier it ate me up. I bought several kinds of cup and all got rejected, often with messy milk spills!

In the end we just gradually reduced the milk (literally 5 mls every couple of days) until DC no longer had milk before bed - at 3 they prob get enough dairy from their diet that they don’t need milk at night time any more. Then, involving DC, threw the bottles away so there was never a temptation to go back…occasionally DC wants milk in the evening so just has it out of a normal plastic beaker, as they quickly understood it was that or nothing. I genuinely thought that would cause lots of angst but it didn’t, after a few days it was the new normal… and then I felt daft for not doing it sooner!

But I agree with pp, if you brush teeth afterwards and it works for you, give yourself a break and forget about it. I’ve never met an adult drinking out of a tommee tippee bottle so I’m sure they’ll grow out of them eventually!

Thank you for everyone kind comments. I really appreciate it and might start to look to reduce the milk.

Oh mum life and mum guilt is hard! Lol Smile

Agree with everything here, great approach to reducing milk and agree don't stress!!

Mine never took a cup. I just stopped giving him a bottle at 3, offered a cup (which he never took) and he stopped having milk at bedtime. I made sure he had plenty of dairy in the day. It coincided with him being dry at night so wasn't a bad thing really.

saywhatwhatnow · 01/10/2022 06:47

However I agree with pp that if you're happy giving them bottles then just carry on. They won't be 12 and having a bottle at bedtime.

SunshineClouds1 · 01/10/2022 09:48

I just didn't give my child a bottle one night and he didn't miss it tbh.

If your happy for them to have it then it's fine. I wouldn't stress.

My 2 sons still had a bottle of milk at night aged 3. The wouldn't take it out of anything else, despite drinking water out of a cup all day. Eventually I took the milk away altogether and gave a small banana instead. They're still eating fruit before bed at 9 and 11!
