5 month old sleep questions?

Hi all,

I'm a FTM to a 21 week old little boy who has reflux. He is medicated and his acid burn sensation is under control but he still spits up lots all the time but doesn't seem bothered. He is EBF and otherwise a happy baby.

I've posted about this before but changed a few things since then but we're still no better. I have totally cut out dairy, chocolate and caffeine from my diet.

He wakes between 8/8.30am and goes to bed between 7-8pm depending on final wake up from nap he is up every 2 hours overnight for about 15-30 mins at a time whether he needs a feed or not. In the day we're lucky to get three 30 minute naps, these have to be in a dark room, white noise and rocked / breastfed asleep.

He does not / cannot fall asleep in his buggy, carseat or anywhere else. He doesn't spontaneously sleep being held or in his rocker chair or anywhere else. If i go with the flow he would just not sleep and ends up screaming over tired. He also wakes at the slightest noise.

We have continued a bedtime routine:

  • bath
  • massage and pjs in dark room with slow dim light projector and white noise
  • breastfed and burped
  • songs
  • rocked rest of way to sleep and placed in crib (if placed drowsy immediately wakes up screaming)

This all changed when he was around 3.5 months - before then he'd sleep 8pm-3am then till 7am before waking for the day. He'd fall asleep on his own in the same pram / carseat we have now without any intervention (buggy straps/ car seat head support adjusted for his growth). I'm struggling as feel I can't leave the house as he doesn't sleep anywhere and everyone (friends, family etc) ends up waiting for me to try to calm an overtired screaming baby in a dark corner.

I thought it was the 4 month sleep regression and started tracking his sleep in the hope of seeing a natural pattern or improvement but nothing. It's been 7 weeks and everyday is a new struggle with sleep. Any advice welcomed.
