Tips/Advice for being dry at nighttime...

hi everyone,
ds (who's now 3.5) has been potty trained since he was 3 and i think he's now ready (and me too!) to make the jump to being dry at night (he's asking to not wear a nappy at night.) so i'm hoping someone(s?) out there can offer some advice on how we can best achieve this. we are already cutting back on any drinks before bedtime.

thanks in advance, MN

No advice I'm afraid, but I'm about 6 months behind you in potty training so will be keeping an eye on your thread. Good luck!

I don't believe in cutting back drinks before bed. I think that can lead to the child becoming thirsty at night.

If he wants to drink, let him.

I personally find waking dd1(nearly four)up about one and a half hours after she has gone to sleep and putting her on the pottie works very well. Most urine is produced at the beginning of the night.

usually he's not bothered if he has anything before bed (its on the fridge door if he does) - usually he's too tired (as he's a massively early waker and doesn't nap at nursery.)

good idea about the waking up though! thank you! (i will add that to my .doc file of tips!!)

IMO lifting doesn't help them to wake themselves when they need a wee or to get to the end point which is to be able to go all night without needing a wee.

I have never cut back drinks , aprt ofrm limitign apple jiuce in evenings (whiuh seemed ot make them mroe likely to wet) nor lifted etc. He is on the younger side but it is possible if ready. A hormone has to kick in to wake them in time so lifting can prove counter productive if it hasn't as bladder is not recognised to be full. Ours were both almost 4 and it wasn't an issue.
