Should I worry that ds1 (aged 6) hasn't made any new friends since starting school?

Or should I just assume that eventually he will develop some social skills?
He has been with the same class since preschool (now in yr 1) and hasn't expanded his friendships in any meaningful way. He only ever wants play dates with two people (one of whom is in yr2), both of whom he knew before he started preschool!
Should I be more pro-active about developing his social life or should I just leave him be? I probably manage to arrange one play date every half term...
Ds1 is pretty happy, he is one of those introverted absorbed types and can take or leave friendships, he doesn't have much intuitive sense about how to be popular - I can't help worrying that I should be helping him more in this area...or do they just get the hang of it eventually?

its always worrying if you feel your child has no friends but he obviously has got friends that he enjoys playing with and he seems happy so to be honest I wouldnt be to worried, it would be totally different if he was upset and had no friends.

My DS is in preschool and he has a few close friends rather than a large circle of friends. He seems happy so I don't worry. But next year they'll all be going to different primary schools so i do worry about him making more friends there.

As your DS is already in school i honestly wouldn't worry
