10mo not standing

My DS is 10 months next week and won't really bear weight on his legs. If you keep lifting him up he will stand for a second but flops back down. I've tried standing him at the sofa and he just wants to sit. If I leave him on the floor he can get around the room by rolling, he pushes himself up and moves himself round with his hands too.

He didn't do loads of tummy time when he was little because of reflux. I'm starting to get concerned as I know a little boy the same age, literally born the same day and he's on all 4's pushing his bum up in the air and is now standing and my lb is doing neither

Your lo is not ready to stand.

He can roll around and get around. He's fine.

One day he'll do it, probably soon.

TeddyBeans · 26/09/2022 18:39

DS didn't start crawling til 11 months. He couldn't weight bear until 14 months and didn't walk until 15+ months. He's now a very normal 4 year old.

RockAndRollerskate · 26/09/2022 18:45

My first DS was crawling at 6m, pulling up to stand at 8m and standing independently by 9m.

My second is currently 9m and not even attempting to get around, let alone stand. He probably did more tummy time thanDS1.

that is all to say that they all move at their own pace and don’t worry

My DD was the same, didn't stand until 14 months and then very quickly started walking.

My youngest bottom shuffled until he was 18 months. It doesn't mean anything, they haven't read any baby books and feel no peer pressure. Lucky things 😂

Sparklythings1 · 26/09/2022 18:53

Honestly don’t panic. I was the same then he could stand but couldn’t stand himself then he started standing himself just before his birthday and I so prayed he would walk before he turned 1. He didn’t and still doesn’t at 14 months, it’s fine. Who cares! Your little one will be just fine

Mummy2C · 26/09/2022 18:54

My LO was similar. She started walking at about 18 months.

Topseyt123 · 26/09/2022 18:55

None of my three were standing or even trying to by 10 months old. We didn't do tummy time back in those days, never heard of it until recently.

DD1 began crawling close to a year old but not standing. Then she walked at 14 months.

DD2 began bum shuffling at around 9 months old, but didn't stand until over 18 months. She finally walked at 23 months.

DD3 was similar to DD2, though walked slightly earlier at 21 months.

No physical problems for any of them. All are in their twenties now and perfectly healthy on that score.

Try not to worry. Your child will stand etc. when they are ready.

yikesanotherbooboo · 26/09/2022 20:15

My advice is to let your baby develop at their own rate. You can't teach them to stand or walk , you just have to wait. He is well within normal parameters , try not to worry. None of mine were standing at 10 months they are entirely normal physically. Early walking or standing doesn't mean that they have some sort of advantage in life.

Thanks everyone. I've had a few comments about him not standing from family members and stories about how their kids were walking at such an such an age and it made me worry, I suppose it's hard not to Sad

DS didn't walk until 14 / 15 months - he's now a professional athlete. He pulled himself up about 11/12 months.

DD bum shuffled and wasn't bothered about standing at all, but stood and then walked at about 13 /14months

DS2 walked at 10 months and I thought I would have another 4 months before having to worry too much. He's the most uncoordinated of my children. 🤷🏻‍♀️

A friend's DS didn't walk until he was nearly 2 years old. He's fine now. Another friend's DD could barely hold up her own head at 6 months - she's now a dancer.

I think it's too soon to worry and they are all completely different and develop at their own pace. 10 months is still really young but talk to your HV or another professional if you need reassurance or want to flag something as a possible concern.

Ah, the good old family members, who all know someone's child who could walk, talk and play the piano by 6 months. Tell them yours isn't walking yet because he's concentrating on learning Latin

Ignore them.

Next they'll be telling you how they were all potty trained by 18months.
Conveniently forgetting that they just out them in the potty for ages, the kid had loads of accidents for months etc

Rockingcloggs · 27/09/2022 07:01

My son couldn't walk til he was 2. There was nothing wrong with him he just didn't want to! Then one day he just got up and toddled round! He could talk like a good one from being really little though!!!
