Potty training, I'm clueless and I need to know everything!

dd 16m tells us when she's done a wee or poo in her nappy.

I've bought a potty and I know she's too young at the mo not thinking of starting for a while but what do you do??? I'm really baffled by this!!

Panicked yesterday when the mother of one of my patients told me her ds was fully trained at 11 months! (he does now have OCD tho)

Tips please!

It seems no one else is interested peacelily so I thought I would bump as I am in the same boat.

DD is 16m too and if she has her nappy off and is about to wee she says "uhh ohh", then wees on the floor and gets upset. We have never told her off so I am not sure why she gets upset. Also she has started holding the front of her nappy when she wees and looking at me. With Poos I have always known when she is going as she is a bit noisy!

She has never been unhappy with a dirty nappy so I may be in for a hard time but at least she is starting to recognise what is happenning. Oh and she follows me to the loo now and insists on standing there watching (very off putting).

So I plan to give it a while longer then put a potty in the bathroom, then sit her on it a few times a day when I go, then have one in the front room as well and see what happens.

If you want to start gently encouraging your DD's to use a potty or toilet, as long as you are not intending on using force or punishment, go for it

We started our DD on a potty at 10 weeks old and I am debating abouting starting earlier with our next baby.

My DD has been dry and clean since she was a year old, though she was clean much earlier.

She still has the odd accident, usually following eating diary (she has a reaction to it, common in small children she should out grow it) and she does still wear night cloth nappies atm.

Thinking of moving her (17 months old) into a bed and doing the night training properly now.

callmeovercautious, great idea to pop her on the potty whilst you are on the toilet. TMI but the sound of you weeing will usually trigger the child to wee if they need to.

I told my Sister and Mum today about what she is doing and they both said she is gearing up to it and how early it seemed. Sis has offered me her old Potty (sounds a bit yuck I know) which she used for her 2 boys. It is an all singing thing which converts to a step and trainer seat so I might take it and see what happens.

I will be filling the bath with Milton and giving it a dunk first though

Thanks for the advice BE. Did you EC with your DD or just pop her on as and when? I think I could have done EC for No2s but for No1s she was always so calm and gave me no signs, I would have needed rubber floors

My little man is 2 and a half and is still not bothered by wearing a nappy full of smelly poo - clearly not ready, any other signs I should look out for??

pumpkin222, Hopefully someone else will read your post and answer but it might be best for you to start a new thread. You'll get more responses that way. Click on 'Start New Thread' link at the top of the page

callmeovercautious, Yes we ECed our DD and to be honest, that is all it is. Just popping baby on a potty when you think she wants to do something or if she tells you (via sign/sound/other cue).

Poo's are usually the first and easiest to catch. With wee's we started with the easy catches after sleeping and nursing and carried on from there.

Here is a basic guide to ECing which you might find useful

pumpkin222..... if you get any answers let me know we are in the same position!!.... although not really that bothered (will be if he gets to three) i used to use real nappies but switched to oull ups due to nappy battles aged 2, someone suggested putting ds back into real nappies because he will hate being wet all the time, so might try that!!!.... peacelily i am jealous of you!
