3 month old waking every 2 hours

Hi all. DS is 3 months old and EBF. He weighs 18lbs so a very chunky boy. He might do a 4/5 hour stretch at the start of the night (say 8pm until midnight) but after that is up every 1.5/2 hours. Last night he slept 9pm until midnight but was then up at 12, 1:45, 3:30, and 4:50. He's currently asleep but I also have a 3 year old DD who was up at 5! I'm so tired.

DD was sleeping through from 8 weeks (she was formula fed though) so I'm not really used to this! I know he's far too young to sleep train but I'm just looking for commiserations I guess 😂

If your baby was the same at that age, when did they sleep though or at least go longer than two hours?

It sounds like you've hit the 4mo sleep regression already, the same happened to us having had previously good nights.

Probably not what you want to hear but we're at 6mo and not seen any improvement. We'll sometimes get a 3hr stretch at the start of the night, and I've been going to bed at the same time as LO (between 7pm - 8pm) a couple of nights a week to try and catch up myself.

Also interested in answers from more experienced mums!

Just to add... From what I've read (and I've read a lot after over 2 months of little sleep), it doesn't make much difference whether your baby is BF or FF. It's more about the temperament of the baby. It can be worth checking for any underlying issues e.g. gassiness, but waking every 2 hours is certainly within the realms of normal infant sleep. Unfortunately.

I'm in a FB group called Hey Sleepy Parents and there are plenty of FF babies having wakeful nights in there.

In my experience, this is totally normal for a 3 month old - solidarity with you though as it's bloody hard, especially if you have another little one! I followed a few holistic sleep coaches on Instagram which I really liked as they normalise infant sleep (but that might also be annoying when you're really sleep deprived). The insta accounts i liked were : foxandthemoon_sleep ; heysleepybaby ; littlenestsleep ; thenannysleepcoach

It's very tough but you will get through it - potentially with the help of lots of cake!

All great accounts.

I would also add Lyndsey Hookway for simple to digest information about biologically normal infant sleep. She has a number of very reassuring posts.

We experienced this with DD now 3, and ended up begrudgingly sleep training at 5 mos. Best thing we ever did, after 3 nights she was only waking once per night for a feed. Sleeping through by 9 months.

We used the book Precious Little Sleep it was very very helpful in explaining exactly what to do.
